Easter Story Told To Lincoln Group LINCOLN (Special)-Mrs. Mar vin Cherry opened her Lincoln home for the April meeting of Spring Valley Home Missionary society, serving a dessert preced ing the program. Co-hostesses were Mrs. H. J. Neiger and Mrs. C. F. Merrick. Special guests were Miss Max Ine Buren, Statesman Woman's editor, Mrs. Edward Schlcgel, Mrs. Eva Purvine, Mrs. S. A. Hackett, and Mrs. N. Business Sold Near Stayton STAYTON (Special) Recent business changes in the West Washington area of Stayton have been noted. The Ed Lewins have bought the Stayton Bargain House from Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Worley who will continue in charge of the busi ness until June 1. The Worlcys came here two years ago from Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. Art Lewin have leased from John Mavrogianes, the grocery store which he has been conducting next door to thc Bargain House. Catholic Women Pick New Heads WOODBURN (Special) Mrs. Clarence Hagenauer was re-elected chief ranger of St. Mary's Court No. 503, Women's Catholic Order of Foresters this week at the home of Mrs. Steve Bauman. Installation of new officers will be at the April 23 meeting. Other officers re-elected are Mrs. Clyde Bauman, vice chief ranger; Mrs. Jack Evans, financial secretary and Mrs. LaVern Otjen, treasurer. Superintendent of schools is Musical Fete At Woodburn WOODBURN (Special) -A dis trict music contest for Junior high school musicians will be held in Woodburn Saturday, April 13, for which musicians from 13 western Oregon schools have already reg istered. E. Donald Jessop and Jo ann Meyer, local school music teachers, are chairmen. Meetings will be held at Woodburn high school beginning at 9 a.m. Four choruses, 10 bands, 45 so loists and 13 small ensembles had signed for competition by last Tuesday. Schools registered by Tuesday included Woodburn, Les lie and Parrish junior highs of Salem, two from Dallas, Sweet Home, North Marion union high, Junction City, Silverton, Albany, Crowfoot, Mill City and Pleasant Hill. Lebanon Junior High PTA Elects LEBANON (Special) President of the new Junior High School PTA is Mrs. Merle Klinge, elected recently. Mrs. Robert Geddes Is vice president; Mrs. Jack Hildebrand is secretary; and Mrs. R. G. Hobbs is treasurer. Mrs. Klinee will represent Linn county council, Santiam and Jun ior High PTA groups at the state convention in Fendleton. Lyons Club to Present Play T VftNS Knnaiall Thp Man- Linn P.T. Club will present a home talent play "Hillbilly Wcd diri," comedy in 3 acts, at the Man-Linn gym Friday evening at 8 p.m. Proceeds will go toward buying athletic equipment for the school. The cast includes Jim Wright, Donna Wesley, Nona Mays, Rose Thayer, Jaunita Wright, Lucy Palmer, Joanne Cruson. Carlan Hiatt, Virgil Hiatt, Charles Crew. They have two boys in grade school. BOY BREAKS THUMB SCOTTS MILLS (Special) Stewart Slater, student at the Scotts Mills school, fractured a thumb, while at play on the school grounds recently. JOHN NELSON ILL SCOTTS MILLS (Special) John Nelson was taken to the Sil verton hospital recently with a heart ailment. Mrs. Russell Nelson is still in the Oregon City hospital but her condition is much improved. MRS. LENSMAN ILL JEFFERSON (Special)-Mrs. G. A. Lensman who underwent sur gery at Salem Memorial Hospital March 20, is still there although reasonably improved in health. PETE RICKS ILL JEFFERSON (Special) Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ricks are caring for the former's father, 84-year-old Pete Ricks at their Jefferson home. The senior Ricks has been in an Albany hospital. CALIFORNIA VISITED TURNER (Special)-Mr. and Mrs. George Brower returned the past week from Coachilla, Calif., where they spent the winter with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Sample. Both are improved in health., GUEST FROM CANADA MOLALLA (Special) A house guest in the home of Mrs. Frank Lowes is her sister-in-law, Mrs. George Armstrong of Slecman, Ontario, Canada. Named for president was Mrs. Norma Wells; for first vice-president; Mrs. Eva Bressler; second vice-president; Mrs.. Eva Humph reys, secretary; Mrs; Nina Leffler, treasurer; Mrs. Mabel Knight, sergcant-at-arms. Election of offi cers will be held at the May meeting. Clara Lau, constitution and by laws chairman, explained changes in the auxiliary's constitution as recommended by the department.
