Bernard Mainwaring. guard. The group met this week at the home of Mrs. C. M. Forbes with Miss Carrithers as co-hostess, Mrs. Bruce in charge of the program. Soroptimist Club Hears Dr. Ashbaugh At their Wednesday meeting the Salem Soroptimist Club had as their guest speaker Dr. James Ashbaugh, in charge of juvenile affairs for Marion county. Dr. Ashbaugh spoke on methods of preventing delinquency among ju veniles and of means of assisting youngsters who have problems which come to the attention r.f juvenile authorities. A question and answer period following ihc talk brought out many interesting features of Dr. Ashbaugh's work. The members heard a report on the ticket sales from their recent benefit style show and were very much pleased with the results of their efforls. Nominating ballots were dis tributed to members as the first step in selection of club officers lor the coming year. Attending the meeting as a guest was Dr. Eleanor Gutman. Get-Acquainted Party For Rainbow Groups A gel-acquainted mother and daughter coffee hour was enjoyed Tuesday by members and daugh ters of Cherry Assembly Mothers Club, Order of Rainbow for Girls. The event at the home of Mrs. Elmo Locker was attended by 75 guests. In the receiving line were Mrs. C. J. Kunowsky, president of the Mothers Club, Mrs. D. M. Eby. mother adviser, and Mrs. R. C. Genre. Board members who served were Mrs. Merle W. Phillips, Mrs. Knv Hoffman and Mrs. Clarence C. Field. The table was set vitha green cloth and was centered with a bouquet of daffodils. Co-hostesses were Mrs. Clair H. Alderson and daughter, Miss Elizabeth; Mrs. Nels T. Johnson and daughter. Miss Carol; Mrs. Clarence F. Bucller and daughter. Miss Dianne; lind Mrs. Kunowsky and daughter. Miss Alma. Next meeting of the Mothers Club will be April 16 at the home of Mrs. Nels Nelson, 3880 Welty Avenue. AT THE meeting of Salem Re bekah Lodge No. 1 this week new members were welcomed, with Mrs. Oscar L. Bynum joining through transfer and Mrs. Alexan der Bradfield and Mrs. R. A. Gcd des by initiation. Special guests were Mrs. Flor ence Manley. Rehekah member from Ortonville. Minn., and Miss Genrgiana Hatfield. Mrs. Dora Hill. Mrs. Lynn E. Hill. Mrs. J. L. Batdorf, Mrs. 0. F. Kelsey and Mrs. W. E. Gardner formed the committee for the so cial hour. PLANNED for next Thursday afternoon, March 28, is a "wel come home" tea for Mrs. Doug las McKay, hostesses for the event to be Mrs. G. F. Chambers and Miss Dorathea Steusloff. The party will be in the Meier & Frank s Oregon room. Mrs. McKay has been gone most of the past four years while Mr. McKay was Sec retary of the Interior. A CLUB hostess of the week was Mrs. Kenneth Power who en tertained her bridge group at luncheon Wednesday. Additional guests included Mrs. Winfield Needham. Mrs. Richard A. Method: Stir together the cat chup, chili sauce, minced green pepper, minced onion, grated horseradish, pepper, and lemon juice. Chill in a tightly covered jar overnight. Serve in a small bowl surrounded by the cooked K;,,n TMc maVpi ennuch dip for the three pounds of shrimp. serving 12. If any sauce is left over, store in tightly covered Jar in refrigerator. Note: To cook the 3 pounds nf shrimp, add I tablespoon pickling spices to 2'i to 3 quarts water: ; bring water to a boil; add the , shrimp: bring to simmering. SILVERTON (Special) Milt Baum, general superintendent of the Silverton school system, was surprised Monday after school hours by the entire force of his fellow teachers in Silverton at an informal get-together in the social rooms of the Lmon High School. The occasion of the party was the birthday anniversary of Mr. Baum who was presented with a leather briefcase as a gift of ap preciation. Three new units have been add ed to the camp program this year, one for Brownies who have com pleted the second and third grades, a program aide training session for girls in high school, and a pioneer tepec unit for advanced campers. March 17. At the open house at the Hub bard home, Mrs. Burl Smith pre sided at the coffee urn and Mrs, Clyde Lewis cut the cake. Assist ing with the serving was Mrs. Ed win Strom and Mrs. Clarence Becker was in charge of the guest book. The couple were married March 20, 1907, at Woonsockct, South Da kota. Pro gram aides will conduct a two week session from June 30" to July 13, at which time they will carry on their own advanced camping program as well as shar ing their skills with the younger Brownies. Sessions for advanced campers will be each week from July 14 through August 24, with the girls living in tepees and doing more outdoor cookery and pioneer crafts, as well as the regular camp program. A special two-week session will be offered July 21 to August 31. The regular camp program will include activities such as horse back riding, swimming, archery, nature lore, outdoor crafts and cooking, hiking, and trail blazing. Mrs. T. A. McMinn of Corvallis who has directed the camp for the last two years again will head the staff. All staffers are trained to work with girls and in outdoor skills. Adviser in Equipment to Visit Scouts Miss Francos Morgan, national Girl Scout adviser for equipment agencies, will be in Salem March 25 and 26, Monday and Tuesday, to visit local Girl Scout equip ment agencies and to confer with local Scout leaders.
