Mrs. Pence, as sociate matron, presented a de gree in which all of the officers took port, honoring the retiring worthy matron and patron, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Colvin. Hostesses for the evening were Mrs. nay Wertz, Mrs. Ed Miller, Mrs. Margaret Yergen and Mrs. Pence. At the start of last year membership teams were selected with Mrs. Ed Jones in charge of one, half and Mrs. Ear! Wininger in charge of the other half. The former group was the losing side, and will entertain the winners. EAST SALEM (Special) Mrs. Ralph Werner and Mrs. Duane Kilgus wern hostesses for a neigh borhood meeting at the Werner Garden Road home last week. Guests for dessert were Mrs. Floyd DeLapp, Mrs. Charles E. Siegmund, Mrs. Jess Hatch, Mrs. Mary Swingle, Mrs. Harry Jen nings and Mrs. Paul Lynch. Betrothal Told WILLAMINA (Special) Mr. and Mrs. Everett Spangler of Eu gene, formerly of Willamina, have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Sharon Lee, to John Nail, son of Mr. and Mrs John Nail of Eugene. A September wedding is being planned by the young couple. High school seniors will be invited and candidates for May Queen will be selected by the senior class and presented in convocation April 9. Savory way with shrimpl Peasant Vegetable Soup Pickled Shrimp and Egg Salad Crusty Bread Peach Cobbler Beverage PICKLED SHRIMP AND ECU SALAD Ingredients: 1 pound shrimp, 1 small onion, 2 tablespoons olive oil, 2 tablespoons white tarragon vinegar, salt, pepper, Vi teaspoon prepared mustard, Vi teaspoon dried crumbled oregano, 1 small garlic clove (crushed), 4 eggs, mayonnaise or mayonnaise type dressing, saiad greens. Method: Cook, shell and devein shrimp; use the size that counts about 28 to the pound. Peel on ion, cut into thin rounds and sep arate into rings. Cut each shrimp In half lengthwise. With a fork beat olive oil, vinegar, la teaspoon salt, pepper to taste, nrcnarcd mustard, oregano and crushed gar lic together. Mix shrimp and onion rings with dressing; cover tichtly and refrigeralo an hour or longer. Hard-cook eggs and cut in half lengthwise; remove yolks and mix with enough mayonnaise to mois ten, nnd salt and pepper to taste. Stayton Catholic Daughters Report STAYTON (Special) -Court Queen of Peace, Catholic Daugh ters of America, met last week at Forester Hall. Fathers Eugene and Athanasius of the Benedictine Abbey showed colored slides of some of the churches of Rome and the town of Engleburg, Switzerland, for which the town of Mt. Angel was named, and the surrounding moun tains. They also answered a num ber of questions on the European countries. Father Abbot Damien of St. Benedicts conducted a day of re collection for the parish on Sun day, at the Immaculate Conception church. The observance is spon sored by the Catholic Daughters, In charge of the luncheon were Mrs. Louie Gislcr, Mrs. Ernest Dozler, Mrs, Bob James and Mrs. Margaret Kintz. The court voted to buy colored slides of the rosary, which will be available for loans to any Catholic group or school. The Rev. Mathtas Jonas, chaplain, spoke on Catholic action.
