Salem, Oregon, Thursday, March' 14, 1957 PagS 10 Section" 2 ' THE CAPITAL 'JOURNAL 2 Newspapers Insist Britain Delay H-Tests LONDON W Two British newspapers, the Laboritc Daily Herald and the liberal News Chronicle, demanded Thursday that Britain call off her H-bomb test scheduled lor this spring. The Times said tiiat "once this test is over, a new initiative to ration such tests could be made and it should come from this country. ' The editorials reflected a grow Ing concern among newspapers and doctors in Britain about the effects of the Increasing num ber of nuclear explosions carried out by the world s great powers. Japan has appealed three limes without success to Britain to post pone the H-bomb tests to be held in the Christmas Island area of the Pacific. Prime Minister Macmillan, stat ing that available medical opinion considers the danger from the tests "negligible," has said Brit ain will go ahead with the pro gram. The government feels the tests are necessary for Western defense. TOKYO uei Radioactive dust, rain and snow have been reported In northern and central Japan fol lowing the Soviet nuclear lest ex plosion March 8. Japan for the first time asked Russia Monday to suspend her nuclear tests. The Soviet Union began a series of nuclear tests last August. Since then the U.S. Atomic Energy Com mission has reported four nuclear blasts, the most recent last Fri day. 10 Missing on Aerial Tanker FlighttoWake ' TOKYO Ifl U.S. Navy planes combed the Western Pacific to day, seeking a U.S. Air Force tanker plane missing with 10 crewmen aboard. In central Japan a four-man Air Force medical team parachuted to a mountain spot about four miles from what was believed to be the wreckage ot a missing C47 transport. Four men had been aboard the C47. The aerial tanker, a KB50, lclt Vokota Air Base just west of Tok- Vyo last night and was scheduled to reach Wake 7Vi hours later. The Air Force announced It wns missing after if reckoned all Its fuel was gone and no report was received ot Its landing. The wreckage believed that of the missing transport was spotted 0,000 feet up on n 9.500-foot moun tain about 200 miles northwest of Tokyo. Aerial spotters saw no sign or life- about the plane. . Last Israelis Out of Eggypt TEL AVIV Mi - Israeli inn headquarters today announced the last Israeli soldiers and equip mcnt have pulled out of the Sharm cl Sheikh area on the Cult of Aqaha. The withdrawal was com pleted last night. The main Israeli evacuation from Sharm el Sheikh was car ried out last Friday and the area was turned over to Finnish troops of the U. N.
