Page 10 Section 2 THE CAPITAL JOURNAL Salem, Oregon, Monday, March 11, 1957 DOROTHY DIX COLUMN Marriage-Happy Young Lad Would Be Best forgotten 1)1; A II DOKOTHY DIX: I met Alva a year ago, and In three weeks we were discussing marriage. It was her idea more than mine, lincc I wasn't completely in love with her at the time. I hedjed. Icllmsj her I needed more lime, and we drilled along for a few months. She's 19, a year younger than 1, and has heen married heforc. Meanwhile her ex-husband was trying to effect a reconcilia tion, which she, at limes, considered. She continued to say she loved me and even tually I was convinced that I loved her. I'm going inlo service in a few weeks and wonder if she U wait for me. Should I get engaged? Marshall D. DEAR MARSHALL: If you think an engage ment Hill llolcf this girl fnr two years, think again She wants n man, any man, and Is only n-alllng f for one to rome across with a hnna fide proposal. She's playing you against her ex-husliand, and probably is trying reverse tactics on him. Leave fur Ihe Army with your hftirl, future and allotment checks unpledged. Give your all In L'nelc Sam for two years, then look lor a girl who will he more interested in you than in herself. DEAR DOROTHY DIX: I know a hoy who gave up a perfectly lovley girl because his mother offered him a new car if he would. Does this show mother dominance, or )s It a sign of immaturity on I the boy's part? .Marilyn. DEAR MARILYN; Call II what you will, Ihe girl Is fortunate Indeed In be nut of that family. Neither a dominating mnlher-ln-lnw or a weak-willed husband makes fnr a happy marriage. DEAR DOROTHY DIX: My husband has recently gone into busi ness for himself. We are both nervous people and, although the business is successful, the strain of it is making us both had-tempered. its particularly hard on me, as I get upset very. easily. Nora. DEAR NORA: Have you ever rnnsldered seeing a doctor about this nervous condition? With some cooperation from you, he might do wonders, A "nervous condition" Is a mailer nf pride with some people, who regard it almost as a distinction. A physical checkup and a change nf attitude may change your whole life. DEAR DOROTHY DIX: How do you win a boy friend? Is It better to play hard to get or to be responsive? Gladys. DEAR GLADYS: Depends on the type hoy you're after. Each gal has to change tactics to meet requirements. Keeping a boy guess ing often works, but don't overdo II. Some lads become discouraged more easily than others. Send your problem to Dorolhy Dix. Or wrlle for her free leaflet D-17, "The Ideal wife."
