It was a gay social week, Thursday particu larly being "one of those Cays" It began with the big kickoff coffee in the morning for the Salem Women's Golf association, an event we told you about yesterday . . . Next event was the beauti fully appointed luncheon for which Sirs. B. 0. Schucking, assisted by her daughter, Miss Helene Schucklng, entertained at their charming Eola home for a dozen, including a group of legislative friends .... Then it was lea time at the Glenn Woodry home, Mrs. Woodry and Mrs. Rex Adolph entertaining .... And winding up the day was the informal Luffet for which Governor and Mrs. Rob ert D. Holmes entertained at their Candalaria Heights home on Alvarado Terrace in the eve ning The Holmes party was the first of the series at which the governor and first lady will entertain for legislators and stale officials .... Guests gathered in the downstairs recreation room .... It was a colorful springtime- parly Setting the theme lor the charming decor within were the arrangements on the door, gold fans, from which were suspended garlands of violets . . . The two hostesses received In the living room, wearing identical frocks, pretty prints with pink, blue, or chid and violet shades in the floral designs .... Each wore a corsage, of purple hyacinths, violets and pink rosebuds, backed by tiny lans in orchid and pink at the waistline . . .The varied colors of spring highlighted the lush floral decorations. . . On the coffee taHe in front of the sofa was a low bouquet of pink roses with gilded straws. backed bv an open white tulle fan In the hall was a large vase of tulips and stock in purple and orchid, blending in with the amethyst glass vase at one side The tea table in the dming room was a picture setting. . . The cloth was a floor length white organdy one with a fleep border in evelel ombroidorv The centerpiece was an arrangement of white stock and white roses in a tall antique glass compote, a few violets tucked in at Ihe base, a few butterflies and white tulle tufts among the blooms, a purple bow tied around the compote stem with the ribbons gracefully spre?d- inr nut on the table At either side of the flowers were whitr candles in crystal candela brum! .... At one side on the side table in front of the window, a spreading bouquet of all pink tulips and slock .... For chatting and seconds of coffee, guests adjourned to the attractive keeping room, the round table there set with an apple green cloth with while fringe border, the center piece a huge bouquet of mixed spring flowers in all colors .... Stone at her Argyle drive home to com pliment Mrs. Bradley Burkland, who with her fam ily will be moving to Livingston. Mont, in April. . . The Burklands will be away the next week or 10 days in Livingston, but will return to be here a few weeks before moving .... Guests, mainly neighborhood friends in the Candalaria district, were invited to call between 10:30 and 12:30 o'clock.- and each was presented a Ray little orchid corsage upon entering the door .... Beautiful ar rangements of yellow and white .snapdragons and other spring flowers decorated the home, a little dish of violets here and there . . . The colfee table was set with a cream lace cloth, the centerpiece a bright irra.igement of birds of paradise ... Amort, Mrs. H. W. Eckcrman,- and Mrs. Zoe McCormick. Yturri Speaker Salem club of Republican Women's Federation of Oregon is to meet Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock In (he Senator hotel. Slate Senator Anthony Yturri of Ontario is to be guest speaker, his remarks to cover some points about the legislature. He represents Har ney, Grant and Malheur counties. His talk will begin promptly at 1 o'clock in order that he may return to the State House before the session. Nomination and election of delegates to the an nual slate convention of the federation will follow the program. The convention is to be on March 26 at the Multnomah hotel in Portland. It is planned to charier a bus lo take the Salem contingent to the convention. Mrs. Paul Van de Vclde, president, also will announce further committee appointments. Next stale board meeting of the federation is to he on March 16, at the federation office in Portland. Among those attending the hoard session will be Mrs. Van dc Velde, Mrs. Clark C. McCall, slate trustee and past president; Mrs. Sigfrid B. Unandcr, wife of the stole treasurer; and Mrs. Slanley F. Watson. Both Mrs. Unandcr and Mrs. Watson are committee chairmen in the local club. SPECIAL recreation program will highlight the meeting of the balcm Business and Professional Women's club on Tuesday evening, March 12, at 7:30 o'clock at the YWCA. Miss Mildred Ycttcr is recreation chairman for the club and the program has been arranged by Mrs. Lillian L. Bristow. It has been announced as "a re-creation of people and things pertinent to the business woman." A St. Patrick's day theme will be used in the study program, demonstration and entertainment of the evening. Auxiliary In Velerans of Foreign Wars is meet ing Monday night at 8 o'clock in Ihe VFW hall for a regular business session. A spring series of charm and fashion modeling courses in Ihe adult education program of Ihe YWCA will slart on March 21 and will continue each Thursday for eight weeks. Teen-agers will meet from 4:30 lo 6:30 p.m. and Ihe women's classes will be given from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The Joan Ross school of charm and fashion modeling will be In charge of tho courses which will be followed by an additional two-week course in fashion modeling and advanced wardrobe co ordination for members of the initial series. Included in Ihe subjects lo be covered are speech, personality, dress, makeup, figure control, posture, etiquette and wardrobe selection. A prac tice hour will be added for the convenience of the class. Page's Chicago Opera Ballet, to present a per formance here through Community Concert asso ciation, ' The program will be at 8.15 p.m. in Salem North High school auditorium. During the recent season of the Chicago Lyric Theatre. Miss Page won acclaim for her two strik ing ballets, "The Merry Widow," an arrangement of (he .'.char score, and "Revenge," adapted from (he Verdi opera, "II Trovatore." Both of these ballets will he on the Salem program. Stars of the ballet are Marjorie Tallchicf and ' Olcg Briansky, other well known dancers in the ' cast Including Sonia Arova, Barbara Steele, Job Sanders, -Kenneth Johnson. Miss Tallchicf has distinguished herself as bal lerina for the Marquis dc Cuevas Ballet of Paris and has appeared hi several notable ballets. Oleg Briansky, premier danseur and choreographer of the Marquis dc Cuevas Ballot company, is re- . placing George Skiblnc who suffered a leg injury at the beginning of the tour in November. His American debut was in 1954 with the Lyric Opera ' in Chicago, and he has performed at New York's Metropolitan and on films and television here and abrond. The two ballets for Salem are in contrast, "The r Merry Widow" in gaiety, "Revenge," a melo dramatic talc of gypsy vengeance. The Chicago Opera Ballet closes the season for the Community Concert association and completes . the 201 h season for the association in Salem. Mrs. ' R. D. Blntchford, campaign chairman, announces memberships may be renewed from today through . March 30. Beginning April 1 and continuing through April 5, any vacancies occurring on the . rolls will be filled by members. A business session will open Ihe meeting at 10' a.m. to be followed by Dr. Brooks' talk at 11 a m. The program will be in charge of Mrs. George A.' Parsons and devotions will be led by Miss Alpha Logsdon. A 12:15 o'clock luncheon will be served by the Laura Austin circle, with Mrs. Cora Van Pelt as chairman. Antique Sale Set Women's association of Ihe First Presbyterian church is planning n big event of next week, an antique dealers' show and sale, the event to he staged Thursday and Friday, March 14 and 15. Women from all over Ihe valley arc expecled to nltend, much interest being expressed in the show, says Mrs. Oscar I. Paulson, general chair man. The affair will he set up In the social hall of . Ihe church, 340 North Winler. between 11 a.m. antf 9 p.m. each day. A ticket purchased on the first day also will be good for the second day. Antique dealers from Eugene to Seattle are participating In this event. Each dealer will have a display of his choice items and everything will be lor sale.
