Day of Prayer Service Program Gets Discussion at Meeting Plans for the World Dav of Frayer services, held annually on the "first Friday of Lent, were dis cussed at a recent meeting "of the Board of Directors of Salem United Church women. Mrs. Wil liam Reagan and Mrs. W. S. Ank ncv are co-chairmen of the plan nine committee with representa tives from all the ICW churches rnmoletine the committee. The First Congregational church will be host on March 8th to this world wide day of prayer. Other matters brought before the Board were the letters of ap preciation from the two scholar ship students," one in Japan at rhnol and the other at the Uni versity of Wisconsin doing grad uate work. Plans were projected by Mrs. C. M. Collins, chairman of Christian World Relations, for the annual benefit coffees for the In ternational Christian University in Japan to be held throughout the community during March. Among the state institutions served by UCW in their rehabili tation program, need was ex pressed for old nylon hose for rug making by the girls at Hillcrest School. These may be collected in (he churches and later picked up by calling the chairman, Mrs. Dick Sorick. Mrs. E. E. Kilpatrick, vice presi dent, reported on the local Wom an's Society exchange programs among the various churches as a part of the "United Month" em phasis on inter-church fellowship and wider information about what LCW is doing on all levels. Evangelist to Give Speech At Nazarene A week of evangelistic services will begin Sunday at South Salem Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Roscoe Pershall of Tillamook as the speaker. In addition to his pastoral duties. Rev. Pershall serves on the hoard of the Orecon Pacific district of the Nazarene denomination. The visiting evangelist will speak at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday and each night during the following week. The South Salem church is com memorating its third anniversary. Rev. James E. Kratz is the pastor. Labish Meetings s To Get Underway Wednesday Night The Rev. Robert D. Bennett, professor of Christian Education at the Western Evangelical seminary, Portland, will hold evangelistic meetings at the Labish Center! Evangelical United Brethren church. The meetings will begin Wednesday February 27. Services will be held each night at 7:45. except Saturday. They are to close on March 10th. The Rev. Bennett has had wide experience in both the pastorate and evangelistic fields. He is considered a leader in the field of Sundav School work and Christian Education. He is also an accomplished musician. Science Film to Be Shown at Com Street Christian A Moody Institute of Science lilm. entitled "The Stones Cry Out." will be shown at 7:30 Sunday night at Court Street Christian church. Khaznet Fir'aun, one of the fabulous temples of ancient Petra, carved out of the red rock of the Arabian desert some 2.500 years ago will be featured in the' film. Rev. Wilderimith To Visit Church Missionary action in Japan will be reviewed by Rev. Wesley L. wildormuth at the Middle Grove Community church at 9:45 and 11 in. Sunday. The congregation meets in the Middle Grove school. Rev. Wildermuth has been a mis sionary in Japan for the past 5 years. Youth department of the Coun cil of churches, is continuing its emphasis on youth evangelism be gun during National Youth week and to culminate in a city-wide youth convocation to be held at the First Congregational cnurcn on Sunday afternoon, March 3. This month prior to the begin ning of Lent, youth groups have been engaged in bringing un churched young people into their local fellowships and preparing the community for the observance of the Lenten season. Posters stating "God is the Answer Worship Him" have been distributed throughout t h e schools, churches and "Y" build ings. Cards with table graces suit able for the three major faiths have been made available to all restaurants. They will extend for the following two weeks and will feature 14 missionaries from 13 separate fields of endeavor. Represented at - the "round robin" conference will be the fol lowing Salem churches, First Bap tist, West Salem.
