V tft r j agtj JOSection 1 Mcfella Eyes NewHighfor School Budget Furnilurc Purchase - Raises Cost of ' (- Operation MOLALLA (Special) A speclnl Molalla grade school board meeting was held Monday evening, with the budget committee meeting with the board. The school's budget for the 1957-58 school year was prepared and will show a slight increase, due to increased debt and paying more interest on school bonds. - An item was included to pur chase needed school equipment for the new audilorium-gym, such as chairs, stage properties; and five rooms of school furniture. When school bonds wcro voted re cently there was not enough money lo provide lor these purchases, rc ported school superintendent T. L, McBridc. Salary of an additional teacher also was one of the items making an increase in the new budget, as an additional teacher will be added lo the faculty for the com ing fall term, McBridc stated. Board members each brought a budget committee member with htm. Don Dickon was named chairman of the budget committee and others are Dr, T. F, Johnson, Harold F. Hidings, Adolph Krax berger and Fred Purvinc. Board members are chairman Wayne Schumacr, Cecil Snyder, Dr. It.'C. Storey, Ossie Marson and Wallace Sawtell. Couple TT ie nun In Auto Crash MOLALLA (Special) Dean Eheridan, 64, and his wife, Ella Mae Sheridan, 55, of 4l 82nd St., Gladstone, wcro seriously injured Saturday afternoon when their pickup truck collided with a loaded wood truck west of Molalln at Hamrick's Corner, at the intersec tion of highway 211 and the Canby Molalla route. After emergency treatment at Molnlla clinic, they were taken to St. Vincent's hospital where it was reported that they had numerous injuries, including fractures. They wcro nut in criti cal condition, it was reported. In the wood truck wcro Law rence Beyer, 24, driver; and Vin cent Beyer, 30, both of Woodburn, Stale police said they were bro thers. Mitchell. 69, which was held there on Mon day. He died Friday of a heart attack. Mrs. William Pearson and Mrs. . O. Award entries Lipman's and 23 H'tiai casual journal Guard Seeks Enlistments At Woodburn Tank Company Target Set at Fifteen Volunleerg WOODBURN (Special) The Woodburn National Guard tank company will participate in "Na- tional Guard Muster Days" the second annual nation-wide recruit ing program, Feb. 22 through 24. Target of the Woodburn drive will be to sign up 15 recruits to bring the unit to full authorized strength of 108 enlisted men and six officers. The local campaign will cli max on Sunday, Feb. 24, when the Woodburn guardsmen will hold open house at the armory. Re cruiting teams will go out into the north Marion county area to contact all young men 17 to 35 years of age eligible for enlist ment. Parents are invited to come to the armory to get information on the armed forces act and the national guard. A medical offi cer will be present and army in telligence tests will be given. Purpose of the "National Guard Muster Days" is to fill the ranks with eligible young men up to 26 years of age willing to take six months active duty for training as proposed by the department of aciense starting April 1 of this year. However ,the six months training duty will not be manda tory for those enlisting in the guard prior to April 1. Persons taking the six months training and putting in 4Vi years in the Nation al Guard will have their military uungauon completed. Car Backs Over Child at Molalla; Result Negative MOLALLA (Special) Sixteen months old Debbie Philpot will remain in the hospital this week, recuperating from a narrow es cape from death when the family .car was backed over her in the driveway of the Kay Philpot home. The family had just returned from church choir 'practice and I'lliipot, backing the car up to drive It into the garage, did not know that small Debbie was be hind the car. The group had planned to leave Thursday of this week, but the weather bureau warned them to leave Tuesday because of ap proaching storms that would make flying dangerous later in the week, In the caravan of 18 planes from Oregon. Washington and Califor nia were four couples from Molalla, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Kappler, Mr. and Mrs. Kip Kappler, Mr. and Mrs. George Gilmore and Mr. and Mrs, Loren Haley. They planned to have lunch at Reno; then on to Las Vegas to stay overnight Tuesday; next to El Paso, Texasi then to New Or leans to take in the Mardi Gras for a few days. The next hop would be to Miami, Fla to depart on the SS Evangeline at 6 p.m. Feb. 26, on the Caribbean cruise. The first stop is planned for Port au Prince, Haiti; then to Ciudad, Trunillo, Dominican Republic; to Kingston, Jamaica and to Port Antonio, also in Jamaica. Home economics club will be in charge tof the kitchen for the supper. MARY ELLEN SHELLEY FALLS CITY (Special) Mary Ellen Shelley died at her home in Falls City Saturday, Feb. 16. She was born May 16, 1877 in Greenwood county, Kans., the daughter of Enoch and Emma Haworlh, and was married to William Albert Shelley April 12, isi at atayton, ure. She had been a resident of Falls City for the past 18 years. Sur vivors include the widower of Falls City; two sons, Earl W. Shelley, Santa Rosa. Calif; Cecil Shelley, Falls City, and two grand children. Funeral services at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21 at the Bollman chapel, Dallas. Elder M. M. Mohr will officiate.
