Wedding Dress Designer Visits Here An engineer who now designs an exclusive line of wedding dresses, because, he says, there is a chal lenging engineering problem there. too, William Cahill of Beverly Hills, was a visitor in Salem Satur day lo present his new collection of wedding frocks. He and his charming wife, who was here with him, have just com pleted a tour that took them to New York City and Washington, D.C. and back across the country with stops at Minneapolis, Denver, Salt Lake City, Seattle, Portland, and other cities, the array of spring and summer wedding dresses bemg presented- at each place. A husky, jovial person, Mr. Ca hill says he got his start with wed ding ' dresses when a relative asked him to design one -lor her wedding. That was about 11 years ago and he is still at it wilh in creasing success each year. He still keeps up his engineering in terest in building lines, although the main interest is his field of wedding dresses. He also designs formals and debulantc dresses, and has been creating dresses for bolh the Portland Rose Festival and the Pasadena Tournament of Roses. Mr. Cnhill's glamorous' collec tion of wedding dresses was shown here Saturday afternoon at a spe cial program in Meier & Frank's- Salem store. Most of the showing was of lace nnl lullc frocks, many of the Chantilly lace patterns being the designer's own; and there were some organdy and taffeta crea tions. All the materials were com bined in a sensational dress for the finale in the show-organdy, ap Social Club The Social club of Chadwick chapter, Order of Eastern Star, enjoyed a program significant of Lincoln's birthday at its meeting last week. White was predominate, but Mr. Cahill points out blush pink and ice blue, as well as ivory are all very popular, too. The pink and blue arc so delicate as almost not to be colors, but the "complexion cast" is there to aid those brides who do not wear plain white so well. Outstanding features of the Sat urday revue were the interesting pnccklincs portrait ones, sweet heart designs, bateau ones, and varied intricate lace cutout de tails; also, varied hemline treat ments, and' new details for cum merbunds. Most of the dresses featured brush and sweep trains, the de signer pointing out the very long cathedral trains seem out. The skirts were mainly very full and very airy with their delicate lace and lullc, some with tiers; and the designer says the sheath dress with full back panel, or back full ness, is the coming thing in bridal fashions. Preceding Ihe show, Mr. and Mrs. Cahill were enlorlninod at luncheon by Gerry Frank in the store Oregon room and among other guests were Mrs. Unicc Lew is, bridal consultant at the Port land Meier & Frank store and Mrs. David Bennelt Hill, bridal consultant in the Salem store.
