White Has Been In Salem Since June Rev. Boone L. White, pastor of Morningside Community Methodist church, and his - wife, Florence, came to Salem last June because they liked the out-of-doors where they could camp to their hearts delight. They found plenty of wide open spaces, but Rev. While ad mits that they arc having a little difficulty in getting adjusted to the rain. When the Whiles arrived, they found a church plant that was vir tually new, a modern parsonage and a congregation that is made up primarily of young .couples who are growing up with the com munity. "We have a desire to be a 'com munity' church in all that the name implies." said Rev. White. The membership roll, which is around the 120 mark, includes a number of persons who have transferred from olher churches because Morningside is more con venient. Approximately 200 arc af filiated with the Sunday School. Youthful Spirit The Whites are living up to the youthful spirit of the community, having two small daughters. 14 month old Amy Camille and Tracy Kaarin, born Jan. 10. Rev. White was born in Long mont, Colo., in the high country about 30 miles northwest of Den ver. He received his public school ing there and then earned a de gree at Baylor college, Waco, Texas. Having determined lo be a minister, he enrolled at Garrelt Biblical Institute, Northwestern University, where he spent 3'i years. Subsequently, he spent a year at Drew university where he worked for a doctor of philosophy degree. While attending Drew. Rev. White had plenty of opportunity lo !ry out his preaching techniques as a modern circuit rider. Each Sunday he delivered sermons to congregations located at Port Kwen, Riflon and Esopus. ail lo oted on the west shore of the Hudson river opposite Hyde Park, ancestral home of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. His next assignment was at Cen tral Melhodisl church. Skokie. III., where he held the position of as sociate pastor. Kansai Native Rev. While's wife. Florence, is a native of the Kansas wheat coun try where she taught school in the e'"nientarv erades for five vcars.
