German Fails ToPickUp25 Plane Tickets PORTLAND A United Air Lines ticket clerk sold 25 tourist tickets to Berlin Wednesday for $13,307.50. The purchaser said he'd be back at mid-afternoon to pay for them and pick them up. Afternoon, evening and nightfall came. The purchaser did not. The clerk, Marian Stebinger who might have won a company- paid vacation to Hawaii for such a large sale said the purchaser spoko with a German accent. The tickets were to take him, 23 fel low crewmen on a ship in drydock here, and the charming young wife of one of them, to their homeland. When the tickets remained too long at the will-call window, in vestigation disclosed no ship such as he described in drydock here and no group of German sailors known to the Immigration Service or to ships agents. They were not present when the plane departed. Neither was Miss Slcbinger's hope for a Hawaiian vacation. Encephalitis Vaccine Developed BALTIMORE If! None of the bills was acted on, pending further research. Representatives o the Ameri can Society of Public Accountants told llio committee they favored a bill that would add students over 111 who are corning less than $500 to the list of dependents for whom income tax exemptions could bo claimed. However, com mittee members were not sure the $500 earning limit should be re tained. Rep. Joe' Rogers, Independence, testified In favor of a bill that would allow income tax dedue-. lions for child support payments. Rogers said he thought the bill would encourage such payments. Rep. Vernon Cook, Gresham. suggested that while the commit tee was considering exempting costs of transportation for medi cal care, it also should look into removing the 5 per cent of adjust ed gross income limit before med ical expenses can be deducted.
