Her 1953 Introduc tion of a small blue gladiolus, Parma Violet, was voted by a symposium of gladiolus growers and hybridists throughout the nation as best tor show and for arrangements in Its class for f- 1956. Molalla Folk Reported 111 MOLALLA (Special) Sixteen year old Frank Durand, son of the Dooley Durants, Estacada, form erly of Molalla, underwent surgery in Good Samaritan hospital Wed nesday of last week for a brain tumor. The family did not know the exact results of the operation Saturday. Bob Mauti was brought home from the Silverton hospital Satur day in an ambulance. He will have to be kept quiet for some time. Dick Welle, local manaeer of J. W. Copeland Lumber Co.. en tered Silverton hospital Monday for removal of a cartiledgc from his knee Robelt Babb was expected home from Silverton hospital the end of this week. The conference will be Feb. 26-28 in Albany at 7:30 p.m. Place of meeting will be announced later, said Mrs. R. 0. Garrison, chairman. Gervais Fires Kept at Low GERVAIS (Special)-Fire Chief Bruce Theis of the Gcrvais Volun teer Fire department reports that the 1956 fires in this area con sisted of seven town fires with 89 men answering the calls, 106 feet of ladder being raised, 500 feet of hose laved and 2000 gallons of water used. The largest fire occurred in Sep tember at the Northland mill in Gcrvais with damage in the amount of $1,100. Total damage for the year was $1,500. Thirteen rural alarms were an swered using 97 firemen, 875 feet of hose, 48 feet of ladder raised and 2,487 gallons of water pumped. Most of the rural fires took place during the winter months due to chimney trouble rather than the usual summer grass fires.
