Salem, Orpgon, Thursday, January 3i, 1957 THE CAPITAL JOURNAL Section 1 Paje 7 DIOR AGAIN 'Long New Look' in New Styles By NADEANE WALKER PARIS Wi Christian Dior Thursday celebrated his 10th an niversary as the top Paj-is de signer with another long new look. Unveiling his "Liberty line" col lection of spring fashions, he dropped skirts by a good four inches to more than mid-calf and encased the feminine torso in a slim tube, hobble-tight below and with daringly low and wide necklines. . Many of the afternoon dresses came to the bottom of the calf and some almost to the ankle. Al lowing for very high heels, Dior's new length seems to vary between 14 and perhaps eight inches from (he floor. , It was another break with other Paris designers who are featuring hemlines 16 inches or so above the floor. But -across the channel Dior already has support in Brit ish designers who've lowered their hems to 13 inches from the ground. However, Dior's new length is not a fashion revolution of the proportions of his new look of just 10 years ago. He paved the way with a dozen long dresses last season now he lets the ladies choose between longer and long est. The model Dior calls "1957" to tjpif; his new line is a slinky lube, unfitted in back with an overskirt to the bottom of the calf. V-slit in front to show a mid-calf-length sheath 'beneath. Other even more drastic models arc completely unfitted stovepipe tubes. Bottom-of-calf length after dark dresses drop a panel train to the floor behind. Dior's new colors are navy, sky blue, white and off white, beige and red. Bathing suit decolletagc leaves arms bare and shows a lot of shoulder and bosom. Otherwise sleeves are elbow length. Suits have loose, low necklines filled in with draped chiffon scarves, blouses, or multiple siring beads. Coats are hand somely slender, buttoned to near Ihc hem. Small-brimmed hats are back. Shoes are very high heeled and pointed. regularly 69 to '89 39 A superior selection of up-to-the-minute styles, featuring such famous fabric labels us Forstman, Worumbo, Anglo . wonderful warmth with marvelous milium lininps!
