Slides Delay Opening New Pacific Road KOSKBUKG Wr- Opening oft a new section of the Pacific High-j way south of Koseburg has been i delayed by slides in a deep moun tain cut. State Highway Department Di vision Engineer Frank Morgan said it may be June before the slides can be cleared from the highway. The section was to have opened this month. Ihe trouble lies near the sum mit of Roberts Mountain, about eight miles south of here. I Contractors excavated about WO feet into the mountain to make . the cut for the highway grade, j In the winter of n.rf,-51i, when i ter washed through the deterior ated rock. 1 he sides of the cut colapsed onto the unfinished road-1 way. i Some of the material, which added up to thousands of cubic yards, was used to widen parts of the relocated highway to four lanes. The new 7.07-mile section of highway will bypass Winston and Dillard when complete. It will have cost about $3,o.r0.000, includ ing $740,000 for a 7KG-foot bridge over the South L'mpqua River about four miles north of Myrtle Creek. The district between Roseburg and Myrtle Creek will be cut by 5.99 miles when the section is ! opened to fraffic.
