Speidel Gets NATO Post BONN, Germany W The West German Defense Ministry Thursday announced Lt. Gen. Hans Speidel soon will take over command of NATO's Central Eu ropean land forces. He would be the first German officer to be given a top command in the At lantic alliance. Speidel, 59, served as- Field Marshal Erwin Rommel's chief of staff on the western front during the Allied invasion in 1944.
