Salem, Oregon, Thursday, November 1, 1956 THE CAPITAL JOURNAL Section 2 Page Radios Will Be Small Enough) To Stick in Ear in 25 Yearsl By ALFRED LEECH United Press Slaff Correspondent CHICAGO (UP) Wiring quarter hacks for sound was only the be ginning, electronics expert said today. Joe Friedman, president ot Traveler Corp., predicts that fu ture radio receivers will be so small you'll be able to "stick them in your car." "Every child will have his own set mounted on his bike or veloc ipede," Friedman said. "And skin divers will take midget radios un i'zt water with them as part of their regular equipment. "People will be able to com municate with each other at any time with small portable combin ation receiver-transmitters tunable to dozens of frequencies." Friedman predicted that trans continental television, tiny porta ble TV sets and special communi cations circuits for technical and professionali people will become a reality by 1830. World leaders will be able to hold top-level conferences at the flick of a switch with no burden some protocol problems to compli cate matters, he said. More people will learn more languages as television travels! around the globe, Friedman said.! and a new language common to! all mankind conceivably could evolve. "Medical specialists won't have to fly to the bedsides of critically ill patients," he said. "In stead, they'll observe diagnostic proce dures by television and lend their expert advice." i TV performers won't be able to complain that audience ratings !are phony," because TV sets will i be equipped with tiny, built-in transmitters which will keep the i survey takers posted on exactly jhow many sets are tuned to any i prosram at a given time. Friedman said such a gadget could be rigged so the viewer could indicate his like or dislike of the program. Television sets will become com monplace equipment in automo biles, he predicted.
