The Democratic Central com

permission to operate a sound

Truck Dispute I
Quickly Ends
PORTLAND Ifl A dispute
over the firing of a driver touched
off a work stoppage Monday at
Consolidated Freightways termi
nal here, but it lasted only a little
while.
Some 450 teamsters employed
by the company quit work and set
up a picket line, but went back to
work after the ousted driver, Don
ald Rohwer of Portland, got back
his job.
Rohwer had been fired for re
fusing to cross a picket line at
the strike-bound Swift and Co.
packing plant. Consolidated
spokesman Neil Broady said later
that its contract with the Team
sters provides that drivers can
not be fired for refusing to cross
a picket line.
