Newspaper Page TextPage 8 Section 2 THE CAPITAL JOURNAL Salem, Oregon, Wednesday, June 6, 1956 - Explorer Due Z In Salem for I June Confab Explorer Scouts and leaders to the number of about 17S from Ore gon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Alaska will be in Salem June 21, 22 and 23 for the annual "Citi zens Now" conference. The four stales and Territory of Alaska rep resent Region No. It of the Boy scouts of America. The local conference, second of its kind to be staged In Salem will be held on the Willamette university campus where dormi tory facilities are available. Last year three 'Explorer Scout conferences were held in as many locations by way of an cxpen merit. They were entirely success ful pni it was decided to conduct one in each of the 13 regions. The- program of the conference Is intended to ' bring each Explor er a better understanding of his privileges and responsibilities as a citizen now in his home and in his community." A feature of the conference ivill be a party to be held in the Wil lamette gymnasium to which sev eral score of young women from Salem and Albany will be invited. Representatives from Cascade Area Council to the conference will include Explorer Scouts Ger ald Silke and BUI Rector, baicm Wade Bentson, Silverton; Phil Lewellyn, Monmouth; . Kenneth Ware, Stay ton; Explorer Advisor Bob Blenslcy, Salem. w I I, Otjen Funeral Set Thursday Funeral services will be held at the Clough-Barrick chapel Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o' clock for Mrs. Ida Otjen, Oregon resident most of her life, who died at her home at 5S05 Sil verton road, Saturday. Rev. A. G. Jamieson and Rev. Peter Becker will officiate at the service, and interment is to be in the Lee Mission cemetery. Born at Jefferson, Oregon, March 23, 1880, Mrs. Otjen was the daughter of Frederick and Johanna Fensko, early Oregon residents. When young, she moved with her parents to the Mt. Angel area, living on the Meridian road near there. A small part of her childhood was spent in Texas, with her father traveling between Texas and Ore gon at times. October 7, 1900, at the Trinity Lutheran church at Mt. Angel, she was married to August H. Otjen, who survives her. The Otiens went to the Central How ell community to live, and made their home there for 15 years, af ter which they moved to the Middle Grove community, where they had since resided. Mis. Otjen was active in the Ameri can union Sunday school at mid dle Grove. Surviving besides the husband arc a daughter, Mrs. Vera O. Bassett, Salem; a grandson, Don ald W. Bassett, Salem, and two brothers, Henry Fenskc, Sandy, Oregon, and Jake Fenske, Canby, Oregon. K.F. to Vote On Fluorides KLAMATH FALLS ifl -Repeal if the proposal for fluoridation of the "city water supply will he placed on the November general election ha'lot, the City Council has decided. The council voted In place the measure on the general election ballot after a delegation of Klam ath Falls residents submitted peti tions bearing signatures of 1,423 registered voters of the city. The petitions slated; "Shalt fluoridation of the Oregon Water Corp. water supply be' denied and the city ordinance so providing repealed. The council passed the ordi nance authorizing fluoridation in 1952 but the statute was not in voked until January of this year. , At that time, the council instruct ed the water company to begin fluoridation by June IS. The water company's officials have indicated that they will de fer fluoridating the water until after the general election. Nasser, Tito Will Confc CAIRO. Egypt I The morn ing newspaper Al Shanb reported Wednesdeny Premier Oamal Ah- del Nasser will go to Belgrade in mid-June for talks with Yugo slav President Tito that will "have a resounding echo in the interna tional sphere " Pointing out that the meeting will take place shortly after Tilo ends his current visit lo Moscow, the newspaper said it "will be pre ceded by an announcement of ini porlant news which cannot he di vulged now. Calif., Is the new- editor and publisher of the week Ir Malheur Enterprise. He took over last Saturday after jurehasing the newspaper from Robert V. Thurston.
