I told his family about his behavior, and you'd be surprised how well it worked. He was so embarrassed. B. S. ANSWER: Reader response to this column is usually quite gratifying. When I offer a leaflet or reading list, the result is overwhelming. Yet when I asked how wives had cured stingy husbands. 1 got exactly three letters. I realited that miserliness was difficult to overcome, but thought there might be some solution. Bishop Sheen, in a recent telecast, supplied the answer when he said that of all the passions, only avarice increases with age. So I guess there's no cure. Some might yield to such measures as Mrs. B. S. employed, but most misers are beyond embarrassment. GPP Co. Buys Co-op's Mill At Swisshome KANSAS CITY Sale of its lumber mill and adjacent timber holdings at Swisshome, Ore., to the Georgia Pacific Plywood Co., was announced Monday by the Con stimers Co-operative Association of Kansas City. Final approval of the sale was voted at a meeting of the board of directors Monday afternoon. The sale price was not an nounced, but Howard A. Cowdcn, president and general manager of the co-operative, said the mill, logging equipment and 5,000 ures of land represented an investment of about 2.S00.0O0. Cowden said the co-operative will continue to serve as a wholesale source of lumber for its co-operatives in a nine-state Midwest region. He added the firm planned to buy from Georgia Pacific and other firms. The mill has a payroll of 197. TRY CHRISTMAS CARD DEAR MISS DIX: A boy at the place I work left for college at the end of the summer. We had exchanged smiles and hellos. but that's all. Nevertheless, 1 can't forget him. He was so friendly. I can get his addresa from the files, but wonder if it would be forward to write to him. I'm sure he'd be glad to correspond if 1 started it. He seemed rather shy. T. O. ANSWER: Since you've waited this long, why not bide your time until the holidays and send him an especially nice Christmas card with return address, of course? Even a shy boy would pick up that gambit if he's interested. DEAR MISS DIX: 1 met a guy at a dance one Sunday night and he asked to tske me home. We saw each other every night for the next week and at the end of the week he gave me a friend- hln fine I was so haODV. Two days later he asked me to return the ring.
