Film Unit Hits
At Censorship

picture industry today protested
to Congress against prior censor
ship of its output by state and
local agencies.
The Motion Picture Assn. of
America volunteered its statement
to a judiciary subcommittee on
constitutional rights, which has not
scheduled testimony on censorship.
The statement said "constitu
tional guaranty of freedom of ex
pression has been seriously erod
ed" by recent Supreme Court's
decisions.
It said a 1952 decision "made
the motion picture a member of
the press, which the First and 14th
amendments protect," but "de
clined to confer upon films the
same immunity from censorship
accorded to nihpr miwlia

Collision Kills
10 in Nebraska
WATERBURY, Neb. I A head
on collision, believed to have been
the worst in Nebraska highway
history, snuffed' out 10 lives last
night those of six teen-agers and
four musicians.
Col. C. J. Sanders, head of the
Nebraska safety patrol, said he
could recall no other accident tak
ing so many lives.
The teen-agers were returning
to their farm homes near Ponca.
The state safety patrol said a front
tire apparently blew out. Their car
rammed head on into one carrying
tne musicians, bound lor an en
gagement at Norfolk, Neb.

of the Jimmy Palmer orchestra,
James E. Martello, about 30,
Springfield, III.: Jack Renn, about
25, Pittsburgh: Lou Case Jr., about
25, Rock Island, 111.: and Don

burst into flames after the im
pact. The Nebraskans killed were Rod
ney Hanks. Gary Stark. Robert
Rakow, Perry Book, Richard Rahn
and Ronald Nobbe.
