Reed moved from Portland to Salem following the death of his wife, Nora Edith Reed, in 1938. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Zella N. Webb of Turner: three grandchildren. Bonnie Schuetz of Turner, Beverly Branch of Dal las, Oregon, and Donna of Salem; and seven great grandchildren. (UP I Search parties today resumed their hunt for a "ghost plane" believed down in the rugged mountains north of President Eisenhower's Gettysburg farm. The search by some 200 civil de fense workers and volunteers in the desolate mountain terrain was post poned at 2:30 a.m. because of dark ness and extreme cold. A woman plane spotter reported a "large plane" in distress Fridav night and said she saw a flash and heard what she thought was a crash. A summer resort caretaker also reported hearing a Diane flvine very low and apparently in trouble. Two sailors passing through the mountains later reported seeing a yellow signal flare. Mr. and Mrs. John Kelly reported sighting a second yellow flare Sun day night and the search shifted south of Dillsburg, Pa. uale Murphy, Cumberland Coun ty civil defense director, said the hunt was narrowed to a triangular section covering some 10 miles of treacherous mountain terrain blan keted by about five inches of snow. Auto, Owner ROSEBURG PoKte'here are attempting to establish the where-abouts f the owner of a new car impounded in violation of a parking ordinance a week ago. But Pecos police said Davis has moved from that city. The keys still were in the ignition when police here moved the car. A check of hospitals and other public agencies failed to turn up Davis. The car had been parked near a Roseburg hospital for two days before it was impounded, Olson said. Papers in the vehicle Indicated Davis is an oil man. Snow and Cold Plague North EUGENE (UP)-A frozen river and deep snow have stranded a party of Eugene area elk hunt-rs 1 in the remote Salmon river coun-1 try of central Idaho. j Mrs. Everett Spaulding of Eu. , gene, wife of a well-known McKen zie river guide, said she was in- formed of the party's situation in a telephone call from an Idaho rancher. Mrs. Spauldinf identified the hunters as Tex Braatz. Miles Mr. Kay. and the Matthews brothers, all of Eugene: Idaho guide Ralph Smothers, and her husband who was assisting Smothers. The group put into the main Salmon river at Shoup. near the east-central Idaho border, Nov. 9, and planned to travel 125 miles downriver by boat into elk coun-; try. Horses had been spotted along Ihe overland trail at intervals to help carry out any kill. The hunt was to end at Riggins, near the Oregon-Idaho border. However, Mrs. Spaulding said the group was to have returned from the Salmon "loop" hunt yes terday, but was prevented by I heavy storms that made overland and waterway routes impassable.
