Salem's Junior Woman's club 'i participating in the General 'federation of Women's club's 'Irive for safe driving over the I'ourlh week end. The drive is he nationwide move for safe Iriving on the part of a national organization of clubs. Newspapers and radio stations 'lave been contacted and are cc perating wi'h the club here, as Iso are members of the Salem Ministerial association. Marking the beginning of the "Telephone Crusade for Safe Driving over July Fourth" will be the pealing of Saiem church bolls jt 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 29. Immediately afterward mem bers of the Salem Junior Wom an's club will start their chain of sails, with each member to call J'cur persons. The hope is that 'iaeh person called will make four more calls. In telling of plans 'or the chain calls the organiza tion reminded that over the Fourth of July week end a year ago 348 persons were killed. Named to head the local club's committee is Mrs. Cliff Bowdcr. Police knew the names of the five but refused to give additional details while the chase was on. They would say only that three of the men were New Yorkers, that one man was from Manchester, England, and a 37-year-old Cana dian woman was involved. "Publication of the names at this moment might wreck all our work," one Interpol official said, Interpol said the five persons were believed to be the despera does who held up the Woodside branch of the Chase Manhattan Bank for a record haul of $305,000, They were known to have entered Italy from France June 16. Eichsieadt New Woodburn JofP Governor Paul L. Patterson Tuesday announced appointment of Harold A. tichsteadt ot wood burn as Justice of the Peace for the Woodburn district to succeed T. C. Gorman who has submitted his resignation. The new justice will begin his term on July 1 to serve until his successor is elected and qualifi ed. Farmer Cooperative Raided by Burglars Burglars broke into the Stayton Farmers' Co-op Monday night and made off with about $240 in cash and some merchandise, state police and the Marion County Sheriff's office reported Tuesday. The cash was taken from an un locked safe and from a counter tray. Most of the cash, about $190 was taken from the tray. A consid erable amount of electrical ap pliances also were taken, officers said. Method of entry into the building was not reported.
