You'd better hurry if you're going to be racing with your inencis in the big 1955 Salem Soap Box Derby on July 17. Di rector Bill Page reminded S a t- urday that re gistration dead line is only three weeks away, so if you aren't registered yet, you'd better get Dad or Mom to go with you down to Douglas McKay Chevrolet- and sign your regis tration card. ! When you register, you get your official Derby driver's li cense, the 1955 Soap Box Derby rule book, inspection check sheet and a folder with a big cutaway drawing of a typical Derby racer. And hang onto that Derby driver's license. It's going to be good for a lot of free sur prises before the Derby is over. Registration will end June 11, Bill said, because by that time we must know how many boys will be racing in Salem's biggest boys' event. That will leave only a few weeks for boys to finish up their racers and for Derby asso ciation men to line up the many prizes, gifts, trophies and other minima nuti win uc given iu iiiu i Dcrbyists. If you don't have a sponsor, he i reminded, don't let that stop you from registering. Marvin Brown and Los Green have agreed to j find plenty of sponsors for boys j who don't have one already. Remember, fellows, if you will j be 11 and not over 15 on August I 14, you should be m there racing in the Salem race on July 17. YOU could win that free trip to Akron to compete in the All American Soap Box Derby. It's not hard to build a Derbv racer. Good Music Big Crowds Lots of fellows who have never built anything before have fol lowed the simple rules in the rule book and built a racer with not many more tools than a ham mer, saw and pliers. Your in spector, sponsor and parents can give you lots of advice while you build the bug that could make you a champion. So why not register now at Mc Kay's, co-sponsor of the Salem Derby with the Capital Journal. PlaqueGiven Walter Dry For Service The work of Walter R.
