The church held its an nual business meeting last Wed nesday night when reports wtre heard concerning the year s achievements. Among Important matters discussed was the propos ed building program that will in clude a large educational unit. Earl Barham is chairman of this committee. Mother, Daughter Banquet Held The mothers and daughters of Central Lutheran Church attended their annual Mother-Daughter ban quet last Monday evening. The dinner was prepared by the Ladies Aid and served by members of the Men's Brotherhood. The featured speaker was Mrs. Arvid Hokonson of Silverton with Mrs. Harold Grindal acting toastmistress. Mrs, Luther Barnes brought a greeting on behalf of Ihe mothers and her daughter, Miss Marilyn Barnes, responded on behalf of the daughters. 'Included on the program were several musical selections by a High School Girl's Trio, by little Miss Mona Gerg from the Blind School, and by Mrs. Johanna Olson who sang (wo Norwegian num bers with guitar accompaniment Miss Elizabeth Peterson favored with a piano solo. Mrs. Helen Lovald led in devotions and Miss Darlene Olson read a poem in honor of the mothers. The bannuet, which was Ihe larg est of its kind held in Cenlral Luth eran Church, was attended by over 100 mothers and daughters. Members. of the association are the pastor. Sunday school superin tendent and one lay delegate from each church of the Ministerial As sociation, that makes up the mem bership of the week-day associa tion. President of the association is the Rev. Joseph A. Cooper. Assist ing officials are the Rev. Paul Wayne Henry, vice-president: Wal ter Ferguson, secretary; and Miss Olga Johnson, treasurer. The Ministerial Association has retained Miss Wanda Needles as teacher of the classes. Miss Needles has just completed her second year in the local program and is again named as instructor for the autumn term of the public school. Aoroximately 474 pupils attend the Bible Week-day classes, which is optional with the parents of the children. Percentage of enrollment in the first six grades of school is 99.9 that attend the Bible classes. This is the most popularly attend ed extra curricular activity of the entire local school system. Lutheran Laymen Elect at Molalla M0LALLA Election of officers was the main item of business transacted at Tuesday's Lutheran Laymens League meeting, with William Pfeifer elected president. Other officers are Walter Warren, vice-president; Mrs. Margaret Sandberg, secretary; Kenneth Hoffman, treasurer; Charlie Lucht and Alvin Ditto, board members; Mrs, Dorothy Warren, rec-elected zone representative; Mrs. Walter Ellison, membership secretary. The new officers will take over their duties in June when the reg ular meeting is held the third Tues day evening. Rev. harl J. Durdel, pastor of Grace Lutheran church, opened the meeting with a scripture read ing and prayer. Fourteen were pre sent. The evening closed with a no host luncheon. Hosts for the June meeting will be Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam Pfeifer and Mr. and Mrs. Del nier Pease. The Sunday School and worship services will be combined, with shortened class periods dur ing the first part of the morning session. Morning Worship is sched uled to begin 'at 10:30 a.m. This change in time will facilitate prep arations for the dedicatory service in the afternoon. The recently elected officers of the church will be installed in a candlelight ceremony to be con ducted at the close of the 7 p.m. evangelistic hour. The public is welcomed to all of the services. Miss Laura Heist of Portland, missionary of the Woman's Divi sion of Christian Service of the Methodist Church, will be guest speaker at the thank offering ser vice at Leslie Methodist Church, South Commercial and Mvers Street, at 11 o'clock Sunday morn ing, May 22. Miss Heist, who' spent years in India, and whose last position was teacher in Webb Me morial High School at Baroda! India, has recently retired from work in the foreign field. Miss Heist spent her early life in Salem, at the family home at 828 Norlh Commercial St., and received her college education at Willamette University. The members of the Woman's Society of Christian Service will participate in the morning service. Reception for Nickels Sunday The Rev.
