tion of John Muir, commander of
District No. 2, American Legion,
assisted by his Mill City ritual
team, recently elected officials
were installed at the rerfular
meeting Monday night with Bruce
Billings as commander, Delbert
Reeves post No. 7, American Le
gion of Silverton.
Other officers installed includ
ed Attorney Quintin Estell as
first vice commander; Lester
Oehler as second vice comman
der; Melvin Heater, adjustant;

Hall, sergeant-at-arms; Gladwyn
namre, nisiorian; and Ronald
Reed as past commander.
The social hour following the
ceremonials of installation was
joint with the members of the
auxiliary, with special honors ac
corded the husband and wife
executive pair. Mr. and Mrs.
Bruce Billings, commander of the
post and Mrs. Billings having
been installed previously, as pres
ident of Delbert ReeVes unit No.
7, American Legion auxiliary.
Silverton post and auxiliary
are specially interested in' the
department, state of Oregon, con
vention from Wednesday through
Saturday, this week, July 21-24,
at Coos Bay, as a local member,
Carl Moser, is heading the line
for department of Oregon Com
mander, following many years of
executive activities for the state
and national work.
Delegates and alternates from
the local post attending are
Bruce Billings, commander, and
Ronald Reed, Quintin Estell,
Frank M. Powell, with their al
ternates, C. J. Towe, Ralph Fran
cis and Melvin Heater.
SNAKE IN HIS RADIO
SHELBY, N. C. (-J. B. Jolley
looked up yesterday to see a
snake's head protruding from the
back of his radio.
He took the set out back where
he shook and tapped on the cab
inet. The stubborn snake refused
to budge.
All else failing, Jolley hooked up
an extension cord and turned on
the set. The heat from the tubes
proved too much and the foot-long
snake slithered out.
