The- Santiam Chapel will pre sent a free sound film, "Stephen the First Christian Martyr," Fri day evening, May 21, at 7:30 p.m. A recent visitor at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Thiel was her niece, Mrs. H. L. Koel Ing, from Seattle, Wash. John Tomb, who Is with the U.S. Army, and stationed at West Palm Beach, Fla., is spending his furlough at the home of his par ents, jkr. and Mrs. James Tomb. Saturday he, with his parents, went to Seattle where they visit ed his brother, Jim Tomb, Jr. Sunday guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Brassfield and Bob were Mr. and Mrs. Earl McCoy and Mr. and Mrs. William Zlegler of Portland. Mrs. Mc Coy is t sister of Mr. Brassfield and Mrs. Zicgler a niece. A group of Girl Scouts with their leaders enjoyed an over night outing when they went Fri day to the C.C.C. Camp at Sil ver Creek Falls returning home Saturday. Dinner guests, of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Hultman Friday evening were Mr. and Mrs. Guy Allen of Salem and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Trowley of Baltimore, Maryland, they had spent a few days visit ing at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Allen's daughter in Roseburg. Cecij Hultman, Jonas Graber, Perry Wells, Mrs. Graber and Mrs. C. Wells were attending the Farmers Unidn Education Con ference in Salem Friday. Everyone has been asked to attend the Extension meeting at Hclmick Park, May 23 an all day meeting when "Camp Cookery" Will be demonstrated. Mrs. Fred Detering attended the mothers luncheon at Oregon College of Education Saturday as a guest of Ardcn Detering. Mrs. Detering was attending the National Conference of Nurses in Seattle all of last week. Miss Joan Belcher of Mon mouth was a week-end guest at the Fred Detering home. Mr. and Mrs. George Godwin of Turner spent Sunday with Silverton - SILVERTON Frank M. West ward will leave this week for Lewiston, Mont, for Die wedding of her daughter Miss Joyce West gaard, to William Cope. The couple's engagement was an nounced last December. Miss Westgaard has been employed at the state house in Salem since her graduation from Mill City High School and Mr. Cope Is employed in Yakima, Wash., - where the young couple will live. They are both former Montana residents. Mr. and Mrs. William Bryant were in Bend this weekend to at tend the funeral services for his small niece, who was run over by a true Friday. Cub Scout Pack, Den 4, had a picnic last Thursday evening at Lake Shore camping grounds near we Detroit Dam. Den Mother Mrs. Bonnie Whltsctt and her assist ant, Mrs. Lowell Stlffler, were in charge of the group. Those attend ing were Ronnie Jones, Gene Shepherd, Burton Upwards, Ernie Smith, Wayne Stiffler, Gary Whit- seit, Ken Nielsen and Mrs. Niel sen, Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Shep- nera. . There has been considerable blasting and grading, preparatory to wideniing me nignway. A longtime traffic hazard will be eliminated when this is completed. ! .. Mrs. R. L. Cissclman was a guest that day. ."Rev. Robert Plrtle will be in the Tillamook-Astoria area this week In the interests of Sunday school and youth groups. Miss Geraldlne Finley passed six weeks tests with high honors at Canyonville Bible Academy, earning the right to be in the honor society. Mrs. Lester. Young writes that she and her family are visiting at her sister's home in Ventura, Calif., for a few days, and then will continue their vacation. Miss Ethel Berglund visited Mrs. Alfrleda Martin in West Sa lem Thursday evening. Mrs. Robert Swope left Tues day morning to visit relatives in Washington. She went to Seat tle first to visit a cousin, then to Wenatchee to see her sister. She is accompanied by her son, little Bobby, and plans to be gone till next weekend. The James Kessler's drove to Toledo, leaving the children with maternal grandparents, and then on .to Medford, where they will minister this Sunday. The Kess ler family plan to go to Africa as missionaries in the near future. Mr. and Mrs. Curtis from St Johns have been at the Park this week remodeling and painting their house. . Mrs. Leo Glllman from Gold Hill in southern Oregon has been visiting at the home of her duagh ter, Mrs. Doris Sullivan since Tuesday. Mrs. Sullivan has been very ill, not able to do her work. Saturday Rev. Gillman and son drove up to see his daughter, and will return home for hiB Sunday services. - Mrs. Leslie Talley and little girl from Salem, and! Mr. and Mrs. Lee Talley from Bandon were visitors Saturday at the Rev. and Mrs. Casselman residence. ' Rev. Casselman will minister at Ankeny this Sunday. They still have not chosen a pastor, In the evening they will attend the Baccalaureate service at the Gervais high school. Their granddaughter, Miss Janice White, is a senior and a gradu ate. ' . Mrs. Nellie Stanley visited her daughter, Mrs. Cecil Roe, in Ore gon City of Saturday and Sunday Mother's Day. On Monday she drove on to Portland, and home Tuesday. ' - Mr. and Mrs. Harold Marsh are finishing putting shakes on their home, and have almost completed a paint job. They also had a lit tle srandson from Four Corners visiting them this week. Paul Edmond and his new bride visited his parents last week. He is being transferred from the army base near Seattle back to Fort Lewis, Wash., and had a three day furlough.
