Church with special selections by the primary children, accompanied bv Colleen Crannell. and a duet, "The Holy City" by Richard Cran nell and Vernon Stephens, accom panied by Mrs. fiiUiar Cramiti!. Mrs Mir.me Davidson and Carol Jean Hersha were received into the church as members, and the children of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Roberts (Hazel Comptom of Leba non. Sandra Rail. Gary Lynn and Rickie Wayne Roberts were bap tised. Rev. Glen Harris olliciat inc. At the Easter eveninn service, a movie "All that I Have" was shown. Tuesday evening, April 20. the Sunday School Council met at the parsonage for their monthly meet Ins. There were 100 in Sunday School Easter Sunday. The Ladies' Aid and Hopewell Home Extension Units met at the Hopewell E.U.B. Church Wednes day, April 21. for the annual clean up day with potluck dinner at noon. The auditorium of ' the, Church was painted last week by Mrs. Clarence LeRg, Rev. and Mrs. Glen Harris, Mrs. Frank Hersha, Mrs. Ross Rogers and Miss Bertha Magncss. The Easter Sunrise service in Salem was attended by Mrs. Glen Harris, Miss Marlene Harris of Portland, who spent the weekend with her brother, Rev. and Mrs. Glen Harris. Aloha and Cheryl Stephens, Joyce Hewitt, Carol Hersha, Mrs. Stephen Reed and Dean Brown. The annual mother and daugh ter banquet sponsored by the Hope well Missionary Society will be held Monday evening, April 26 at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Edna Strout of Amity will be the guest speaker and a program is planned. The men of the community will serve the dinner and boys wait tables. All ladies and girls of the com munity are urged to be present. Innomlnata Club met with Mrs. Richard Crannell last week. The discussion centered around tub erous begonias and flowering shrub culture. Refreshments were served by the hostess to Mrs. John Kuqua, Mrs. John Geis ler. Miss Virginia Magness, Mrs. J. S. Gilkey, Mrs. Eugene Wilson, Mrs. Dolly Peterson, Mrs. Ted Daum and Mrs. Earl Ellenber ger, a guest Howard Davidson and two daughters, Cheryle and Con stance, were week-end guests of his mother, Mrs. Minnie David son, and she accompanied him to Portland to care for the chil dren Jn the absence of their mother, who is with her father In Minneapolis because ' of his ill ness. Mr. and Mrs. Ned Underbill of Dufur were Easter weekend guests of her sisters, Misses Vir ginia and Bertha Magness. Miss Virginia Magncss and Mrs. John Fuqua accompanied Mrs. Under bill to Portland on Monday on her way home, and Mr. Under bill and Ross Rogers went to the roast fishing. Mrs. George Ramsden was seri ously 111 last Thursday and was taken to the Salem General Hos pital. She was released next day and Is now with her sister in Salem. Rickreall RICKREALL The Ladies Aid held its April meeting at the home of Mrs. Harry Dempsey who was assisted by Mrs. Vern Fox and Mrs. Kenneth Wait in serv ing the dessert luncheon. The work of remodeling and repair on the church building has pro gressed, but some outstanding bills were ordered paid from other funds than what had been col lected for this work on the church. Some money was taken from the flower fund, which with a special offering, amounted to $11 to be given to the conrer fund Mrs. Schucking was the speaker of the afternoon. Those enjoying the afternoon besides the hostesses were Mrs. W. C. Hill, Mrs. Anna Johnson, Mrs. Holdorf, Mrs. Al Martin, Mrs. Oncss Whaley, Mrs. George Van Santen, Mrs. Chas. Holt ' Home Economic visitation day was last Thursday when the ladies of the Rickreall Home Economic tub entertained the other 1IKC members of Polk County. Mrs. Carleson, accompanied by Miss Lonsberry and five students, gave a short program during the dinner hour. They were also guests fur dinner. Larry Morgan gave a clarinet solo; Marianne Neufeld and David Carlson gave a trumpet duet; Sharon Kester a piano solo; and Dannie Carleson a reading. The next visitation day will be May 15 when West Salem and Brush college will be host for the meeting at the West Salem city building (formerly knowns as the city hall). Dave Neiss sold his house near Greens Bridge to Mel Arnold. Neiss will move into the house on Second St. vacated by Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Hamby. The Hambys moved to their new house on Marion Rd. They were surprised Tuesday evening when a group of friends came to spend the evening, who also presented them with gifts. Refreshments were served during the evening. Air. and Mrs. Leishton Wedd e are the parents of a daughter, Rebecca Lynn, born April 8. at the Salem General hospital. Harold Knight, Paul McKee. Gilbert Looney, Les Shields, Har old Wynd and George Armstrong met at the City hall Saturday morning donating a day's work on tliu remodeling protect. The wives of the men prepared and served a hot dinner at noon. During the week S7D.34 for the renovation fund has been re ceived from the Chamber of Commerce, $1 from Mrs. Ada Young and Mrs. Nila Settle, also some wall paper was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Powell. Cash received from donations and the women s cooked food sale amounted to $117 49. The town women are planning to serve lunch during the noor hour ful- luwing the May day parade to add to this fund. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Bidgood went to Springftelii Sunday to spend tlie day with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Nicholas, old time friends in Nebraska. The PTA Talent show, held at the grade school Friday made a total of $237.70, which will be divided between the grade and high school PTA's. Judges of the show were Mrs. Mary Aronsen Bones of Grand Ronde. Mrs. Beryl Swails and Clarence Arney of Sheridan, and Royce Coan and Mrs. Mervin Worth of Willamina. Donnell Mitchell and James Mc Coy were masters of ceremonies. High school, first, Carol Mailer: second Lee Wade: third, the girls Sextet The Mill Creek Community club will give its third annual 99 cent dinner Saturday evening. April 24 at the Mill Creek schoolhouse mid way between Sheridan and Willa mina on the south side of the Yam hill river. The dinner will be serv ed from 5:30 p. m. to 8:30 p. m. Proceeds will go into the school property and in a fund for the charitable contributions made dur ing the year. The rural fire truck was called out to the Harry Oehler home one morning last week. The chimney burned out and Mrs. Oehiei feared an overhealer stove pipe might fall to the floor. The Graham Gray family spent Easter Sunday at the beach. Mrs. Florence Cochran visited her doctor's office last week and the cast on her broken arm was changed. Jimmy Fletcher of Oakdale has the cast off his polio leg and is using crutches. Mrs. William Nilsson gave her little daughter, Annie Wink, a birthday party March 24 on her ninth birthday. Present were a schoolmate, Esther, Jerry and Loni Hotchkin, Mr. and Mrs. George Sullivan. Axel and Ernest Nilsson. Robert Richards and Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam Nilsson. Annie's father, Fred Wink, called to see her in the evening and brought a gift, and had cake and Re cream with her. Carolyn Camper has been ab sent from school because of ill ness. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Sullivan and sons of Nehalcm, brought his brother Fred Sullivan over to the Evans Rest Home in Dallas last Thursday. They were there to see Fred Easter Sunday afternoon. Gertrude Hotchkin was initiat ed into the Ladies auxiliary of the Eagles lodge in Dallas Thursday evening. 4-H Club News HUBBARD Making flower carts, their second project, are the member of the Hammer and Saw 4-H club. They have already completed the first project of wooden hangers for hot pan holders, and their third project for the year will he one of their own choice. Mrs. L. H. Graham is advisor for the group. Plans are underway to exhibit at the spring show in Silverton, May 3-7 and to march in the par ade. The club is also planning a picnic to entertain the Knife and Fork 4-H club.
