Mill City. Six posts and auxil
iaries from Aumsville, King
wood No. 81, Salem No. 138,
Capital No. 9, Silverton and
Stayton were present. Another
guest was Fred Lucht, past dis
trict No. 2 commander from Mt.
Angel.
Miss Alberta Shoemake re
ported on the toy library the
post set up at the state school
for the blind and Miss Velma
Davis reported on community
service.
A tree planting project in me
morial to I. N. Bacon was voted
upon and will begin in March.
The Salem Civic Players pre
sented a monologue "The Light
house Keeper's Daughter."
Miss Florence Cameron was
refreshment chairman and was
assisted by Miss Marjorie How
ard, Mrs. Harriot Bechler, Mrs.
Charles Klopp, Miss Velma
Davis.
Miss Carol Smith, Chemawa,
was welcomed as a new mem
ber. On February 5, Mrs. Sylvia
Kraps, 550 N. Summer street,
will be hostess to the group lor
dessert.

21, Pythian Sisters, all recently
Installed new officers were at their
stations and were welcomed by
the most excellent chief, Mrs.
Harvey Kaser.

and Mrs. Harry Martin of Hend-
ley, Neb., is being announced by
Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Driever of

The bride-elect attended Canby
and Newberg high schools and is
' assistant cashier in the Newberg
office of PGE company.
Mr. Martin, who attended Ne
braska schools and saw army
duty in Korea is a nephew of

meeting of the Albany unit of

pany, it is announced by Mrs.
Lucian Weber, president. All

ent and future at Oregon State
are invited to attend. Dr. Strand

Amnesia Victim
Is Surprised

Harold Long, who says he is an
amnesia victim who came to his
senses at Bonanza, Ore., wants to
Know where he was between Nov.
13, 1953, and Jan. 18. 1934.
A veteran who suffered'a serious
injury in World War II, the 32
year-old Council Bluffs man said:
"Maybe I did something wrong. If
I did, I want to know. I want to
know where I was and how I got
to Oregon. How did I get money
to go where I was? I could have
written a bad check or done some
thing. If anybody saw me during
those two months, I wish they
would let me know."
He said he found himself last
Monday night sitting on a highway
near Bonanza, 25 miles east of
Klamath Falls, Ore. His pickup
truck had just been involved in a
collision between two gasoline
trucks.
He then telephoned his wife in
Iowa and began the trip home.
25 Ballots to
Convict Owens
ROSEBURG tin A circuit court
jury deliberated 32 hours before
findinq Bert Owens guilty of sec
ond degree murder.
Owens, 48. was accused of first
degree murder in the gunshot slay
ing of his Indian wife. Betty, 29,
at their home at Riddle last Aug.
25.
The jury took 25 ballot before
announcing its verdict Saturday
night.
Owens Is to Be sentenced by
Judge Carl E. Wimberly sometime
this week.

utes ahead of schedule here early
today, completing a 8.000-mile test
polar flight across the top of the
woric from Los Angeles.
The company hopes to inaueu-
rate regular Scandinavia to Los
Angeles passenger service on the
route by May 1 if necessary agree
ments can be concluded with Can
ada and the United States. The
airline's first trans-polar test flight
was made in November, 1952.
The four-engine DC6B left Los
Angeles Friday and flew by way
of Edmonton, Alta.; Churchill,
Man.; Frobisher Bay, in Canada's
Northwest Territories; and Green
land.

of $1,825,497 for the fiscal year
ending Nov. 30 was reported Satur
day by the Mountain Stated Power
Co.
That is a slight gain over the
previous year when the net income
was 11.601,578, A. W. Trimble of
Albany, president of the firm,
reported.
He said good water conditions
this autumn and reduced power
purchase costs were responsible.
Mountain States soon may be
merged with Pacific Power and
Light Co. of Portland. Shareholders
of the two firms are to vote March
12 on the merger plan.
