and H. A. Rydell, took top hon
ors at a county first aid meet
in McMinnvllle. Three first aid
teams competed with 14 others
from throughout the county.
The second clsss team, led by
Gary Drill, won a blue ribbon.
' The Explorer first aid tram,
led by Dick Doyle, turned In a
score of 95 per cent, winning

of Mrs. Harry Monroe. 42, of

She had been In delicate
health several years. A heart
attack suffered at home Mon
day following influenza in
duced her removal to New
berg hospital where she ap
peared convalescing satisfac
torily and death was unex
pected.
She Is survived by her wi
dower, three sons, her mother

attend the funeral to be held

account of a boat trip he and
his brother made down the
Bruneau river in Idaho last

Denny Earhart, Monmouth,
who has been serving as depu
ty sheriff since the first of the
year, has resigned and plans to
go to Los Angeles where he has
a factory Job.
Jenean Hilburn is staying
with her grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. Sidney Howard while her
mother, Mrs. Jerry Hilburn is
a patient at the Bartell hospi
tal, Dallas, where she under
went major surgery Tuesday.

his job as rural carrier on Rt.
1 after a month's vacation dur

A load of horses fell off the
rear of a truck north of town
last weekend when the rack
slipped loose. The driver,
Charles Rowe, of McMinnville,
didn't miss the horses until he
stopped here, 15 miles up high
way 99W. Rowe hurried Dack
in the pouring rain and found
the horses had been rounded
up and were unhurt but the
rack was demolished.
Helen Lonsberry, accompan
ied by Mrs. Louis Koppe and
Deidre Dick of Eugene, will
leave by train Friday for a trip
to New York City. They plan
to be gone for a month and will
visit Miss Lonsberry's sister.
