Study to Be Made
Of Use of Sirens
A study in connection with
the possibility that sirens on
ambulances and the first aid
car are being used to excess
has been inaugurated by the
Salem Academy of Medicine.
The group is headed by Dr.
Owen Miller, who said that a
similar study is being made on
a nation-wide basis.
The movement had its incep
tion during an informal meet
ing of Salem physicians. Mayor
Al Loucks has asked Fire Chief
Ellsworth Smith to investigate
the situation locally.
There is no intention to eli
minate the use of sirens but
rather to curb them, it was ex-
plalned.

Complete Road
Near Aurora
Aurora Eight and one-half
miles of the Wilsonvllle road
project have been completed
between Springbrook and the
Fernwood community and
Yamhill county crews are con
tinuing work that will extend
the resurfacing to the Clacka
mas county line, connecting
with the Wilsonville ferry.
The finished road is "built to
last," according to County Com-
missloners Charles Newman'
and Albert Youngberg. who
said that barring unseasonable
freezes or unanticipated heavy
trucking, the new hard rock
surface, covered with heavy oil,
should last 20 to 30 years.
The rock used on the road is
from the Renne quarry and ia
used without crushing as a base
for the durable road surface.
