tempt to escape from Red cap-
tivity. .
The Associated Pres.-Dhotog-
rapher was released by the
Reds Saturday
He said his teeth were badly
decayed from lack of care while
he was held by the Reds for
32 months, and that he had
lost considerable weight. Oth
erwise he appeared to be in
good condition.
Noel said the rough North
Korean terrain made escape
virtually impossible and frus
trated his three attempts.
He said he had nothing to do
but "stare at a blank wall" for
the 42, days he spent n soli
tary after his third escspe at
tempt failed.
Noel made his third try for
freedom in company of Capt.
Zach Dean, who was repatriat
ed in April's "Little Switch"
exchange of sick and wounded
war prisoners.
"Dean developed yellow
jaundice," Noel said. "So the
only thing we could do was
turn In and give ourselves up.
I didn't want to leave him."
When they were back In Red
hands. Noel said, he was sen
tenced to six months in jail
and Dean to two,
After 42 days, he said, he was
released and returned to the
regular prison compound,
