done away with corsets, even
for dance dresses," he said in
an article for the Paris Presse.

der women's corsets."
Dior's shortened skirts caus
ed a sensation in fashion cir
cles last week. He told the
Paris newspaper women were
already beginning to shorten
their hemlines before he de
cided last May to shorten
skirts this fall.
'Revolution was in the air,"
he said. "I noticed in the
streets that women were slyly
beginning to shorten their
hems."
He guarded his secret by
leaving his new creations un
hemmed until the last mo

Aurora, were married at an 8
o'clock service Saturday eve
ning, August 1, in the Music
studio of Professor T. S. Ro
berts' home in Salem.
Only members of the family
and a few close friends were
present. The ceremony was
read by the Rev. Ralph Wol
verton, pastor of Immanuel
Baptist church, Salem. Profes
sor Roberts played the organ.
The couple will be at home

Christian Dior, French fashion designer who startled
fashion-wise customers in 1947 with "new-look" and
long dresses, holds hemline of model's skirt in Paris to
show his new look the higher hemline. Dior has short
ened skirts to just below the knee, or about 16 inches .
from the floor. While rival designers In Paris continue
with long skirts, shorter skirts seem to be coming back.

Lt. and Mrs. Runner plan to
leave about August 10 for
Fort Bragg, N.C., where he is
assigned to the 663rd atomic
field artillery battalion.'

stake prizes, on horticulture.

Eleven rules govern all en
tries: (1) Each person is re
sponsible for his own contain'
ers; (2) Display may be en
tered and arranged from 8 to
11 am. Appointments may
be made for earlier arrange
ments by calling 3-6454. (3)
No foreign foliage la permit
ted in specimen entries, stems
should be long. Self foliage
must be in specimen entsies.
(4) No more than five bloom
are allowed in specimen en
tries unless showing buds. (9)
Judging will be at 18, noon.
August 8. (6) No container
will be necessary for specimen
display, containers will be
provided. (7) Flower show is
limited to amateur growers
and local commercial growers
with the understanding that
the commercial displays mill
not be judged in competition.
(8) Only judges and flower
show officials will be allowed
at the show between 11 a m
and 2:30 o'clock p.m. (S) Any
exhibitor may make one en
try in each class of "Horti
culture Division." One va
riety of any color. (Artistic
errangements are not limited.
(10) All entriea should be
picked up at 8 a.m. Saturday,
August 8. (11) The show will
be opened continuously from
2:30 to t p.m. '
