Mrs. Anna White gave a fare well narty for her sister, Mrs, Cenia Chrlstianson, Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. White and Mrs. Chris tlanson left this week for Sioux City, Iowa, where they will be guests of Mrs. Chrlstlanson's son. Mrs. White will visit other relatives in South Dakota before returning. A bridal shower honoring Mrs.' Paul Sprague, formerly ' Joyce Katter. was given by Mrs, Mildred Mull and her daughter, Marilyn Mull. Most of th eve ning was spent playing Bingo. Leaders in Workshop Meet Monmouth An educational workshop for Farmers Union of ficers and members was held at the IOOF hall Thursday at an all' day meeting. Mrs. Flossie Harris of Denver, a member of the education staff of the National Farmers Union, was In charge of the workshop. She told of. changing trends In ownership of farms In the UJS.; cited school conditions and costs in the nation; gava a re view of health problems In many states; bow farm , to market roads are needed In some parts of all states; and explained how all the changing trends are lm portent to all farmers and how they enter In the Farmers Union program. She told of many ways to make local meetings more in teresting and outlined duties of the officers and pointed out that an Action Group is a must in every local so that every phase of the F.U, program may be developed. She told of national legisla tion as effecting the family farmer, as did Arthur Bone, editor of the Oregon Farmer, and he told of state legislation. L. H. McBee, president of the Polk county fair board, explain ed proposed legislation relative to pari-mutuel betting and coun ty fairs. Hurler Libby, president of the F.U. Health Association, told of health needs in the state and said that the State Health asso ciation had a good year for 1952. Don Wilcox, director of In surance, told of F.U. insurance and the national development program. Richard Moeller, state pres ident, announced that national president, James Patton, would be unable- to attend the state convention next week in Salem and that Harvey Solberg, pres ident of the Rocky Mountain di vision and secretary of the Na tional Farmers Union Property and Casualty Co., will be the speaker. Mrs. Harris, who came to Oregon, by plane from Mich igan, also will attend the state convention for two days before leaving for Oklahoma. Five counties were represent ed; Benton, Yamhill, Marion, Polk and Washington. Tuesday, Feb. 24, the group will meet at the same place again to do textile painting.
