Horse Drags Boy to Death Four Corners Tragedy struck for the second time with in five years Thursday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank South, Rt. 5, Box 26, when their only son, Randel, 13, was drag ged to death by a horse. The boy was riding one horse and leading another, with the rope tied about his waist, when the animal became frightened and bolted, dragging him and inflicting fatal injuries. Boys on a nearby farm heard the boy's cries and came to his aid, but were too late to save him. The youth was an eighth grade student at Parrish Junior high school. He had returned home from school at 5 p.m. and was taking the horses to the barn when the accident occurred. Efforts of the Salem first aid crew, deputy sheriffs, City Am bulance Service and a private physician were fruitless in an ittempt to save the boy's life. Five years ago the Souths lost their only girl, Connie, 3 , who died of peritonitis. Besides his parents the boy is survived by his grandparents, Mr, and Mrs. Charles South, 629 N. Winter St. and Mr. and Mrs. John Murphy, 1173 Union St.; two aunts, Mrs. Betty Widner, Beaverton and Mrs. Raymond Hart, McMinnville; and an uncle, Orville South of Portland. Funeral arrangements will be announced by W. T. Rigdon Co. later. Joy, a resident of Clacka mas county, died In an Albany hospital Wednesday after an Illness with which ho was stricken only a few hours earlier. He was 82 years old and had lived In Clackamas county for 15 years. He had come to Albany for a visit with friends.
