Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Stone are
parents of a daughter, Shirley
Jean, born Aug. 11 in the Salem
Memorial Hospital. It is their
second child and daughter.
Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs.
Lester Mason and Marshall

and family left Sunday morn

Ariz., where they will visit her

Call. They plan to be away for
about three week and during
that time may go farther east
to visit other relatives. Dur
ing their absence, her sister,
Mrs. Ila Paris and children, will
take care of the Ewing place.
Nancy Harris, of Eugene, has
been here visiting her grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Steve
Taylor, on Locks Road, for the
past 10 days. Saturday she
went to Milwaukee to visit Mr.
and Mrs. John Sutherlln, for a
few days.
Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Wood
ward and her sister, and house
guest, Mrs. Louise Harmon of
Oakland, Calif., spent Sunday
with Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Wood
ward at Dupee Valley. Mrs.
Harmon will be here with the
Woodwards for a few weeks.
Mrs. Nora Goodwin of Den'
ver, Colo., returned home Aug.
10 after spending two weeks
here with her son and family,
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Goodwin.
She made the trip both ways by
plane.
Cpl. Martin Goodwin left for
Ft. Lewis, Wash., Aug. 10,
where he will await reassign
ment. He came home Sunday
to be with his family.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Paul and
daughter left last week to visit
relatives in South Dakota. He
will be away another week

Amity schools has been an
nounced for Sept IS, according
to R. W. Haberly, Supt. of Amity
high school and Albert Yoder,
principal of the grade school.
New asphalt tile has been laid
in the halls at the high school.
The grade school has added
new adjustable desks and sound
proof halls.

era at the grade school, Miss Jo
sephine Miller and Mrs. Helen
Fonger.
Miss Betty Saling, Lewis and
Clark college, Portland; and

past week, the first time in 23
years the brothers have been together.

family, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Smith
of Corvallis.

Sioux Falls, S. D., are guests of
his brother and family, the Clar
ence Legg family of Hopewell.
Billy Thompson of Bakersfield,
Calif., surprised Mr. and Mrs.
Ed Loop Thursday afternoon on
his way to Seattle to visit his sis
ter, Ernestine.
They called on Mr. and Mrs.
Guy Freahour and family that
evening. He and his family lived
j on the farm now occupied by
the Nell Currie family. His
brother, Clyde Thompson, is
managing a hotel in Bakersfield
and Mrs. Thompson and little
daughter will join him in Seattle,
coming by air.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Loop received
a card from Helsinki, Finland,
sent by Henning Hovmand of
Copenhagen, Denmark, who was
an exchange farm student in
Oregon last year. He worked at
milk testing while here. He at
tended the Olympic games in
Finland.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Loop and
daughters, LaVerne and Jessie,
and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Loop
and son, Dale, of Toledo, were
Sunday afternoon guests of the
Ed Loops. LaVerne won the 4-H
championship for Guernseys at
the Lincoln County Fair at New
port and plans to bring her cat
tle to the State Fair.
Monday dinner guests at the
N. C. Pearse home were Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Dove and daughter,
Lauralalne, of Fort Worth, Tex.,

Mrs. Art Reed is at her parents'
home in Manning, Ore., caring

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hersha
and family went to Redmond last
week-end and brought home a
frozen food locker that was
stored at their former home in
Redmond. Mr. Hersha enjoyed
trout fishing on the way.

foot and mouth disease among
hogs and that they were placed
under quarantine for a month in
Marion county; also that there
is a disease that has developed
among turkeys which is also car
ried to chickens by crows.
Several cases of blackleg
among cattle were reported.
Frank Judd reported on the
Unit School BiU and it was vot
ed to invite speakers out to ex
plain the bills that will be on
the November ballot. A com
mittee was appointed to work
with the lecturer in obtaining
speakers.
The Home Economics club met
at the home of Mrs. G. S. Hig
gins, at which time is was an
nounced that the Booster night
program wui be sept. 12 at 8
p.m. Plans were made for light
refreshments. The community is
invited.
On the lecturer's program an
article was read on water sup
ply and health problems by Mrs.
S. L. Minard; a reading, "Willie
the Rat," was given by Frank
Judd.

received the third and fourth
degree obligation during the
business session.

suffered a painful accident when
she fell from the top of a ladder
while picking apples.
She received a broken arm
and other injuries.

17, 1948, and Maynard Dudley
is suing Louise Dudley, whom he
married July 16, 1949. Both
plaintiffs charge desertion.
