12 Capital Journal, Salem, Ore., Thursday, Aug. 21, 1952 Travelogues for Home Rebekahs Woodburn The regular sea llon of Home Rebekah lodge Mo. 58 wai held Tuesday night with Mr. Coral Gay presiding, and regular business transacted. During the program hour Mrs. Guy Engle. who has Just re turned from an extensive trip through the east coast and south em states, gave resume of her travels including a visit to the "little White House" at Warm Springs, Ga. Mrs. J. Melvin Ringo also gave , talk, relating incidents on the trip of herself and husband to Salt Lake City and Yellowstone park. Mrs. John Gilbert won the first prize In the president's project and Miss Laura Bonney received low. After the meeting Mr. and Mrs. Guy Engle were hosts to the members at their home on South Front street where re freshments were served on the lawn around the outdoor fireplace. For the next meeting, 8ept z, "dutch treat" will feature the refreshments hour with Miss Laura Bonney in charge of ar rangements. Swim Program For Woodburn Woodburn Miss Norene Wells, swimming instructor and lifeguard at the Woodburn war memorial swimming pool in Set-1 tlemier park, has announced the annual free swimming program, to be given Monday, Sept 1, be ginning about 1:30 or 2 p.m. and lasting about two hours. The program will include wa ter ballet, demonstrations inj swimming and diving and water I races. This will be the last day; the pool will be open this sea son and following the program: 'there will be swimming for the j rest of the day. One class has just completed instruction, with 25 passing the beginners tests and three passing the Red Cross swimming tests. The Junior life saving class will complete instruction this week. Five swimmers in the interme diate group passed the tests last week. For the first time a diving class is being taught which be gan last week. Liberty Liberty Congratulations are being received by Rev. and Mrs. John Meyers, 3390 Liberty Rd., en the birth of a daughter, Sally Kathleen, born on Tuesday, Aug. 19, at the Salem General Hospital. Rev. Meyers is the pastor of the Liberty Christian Church of Christ on Skyline Road. The new arrival has a sister, Becky, and a brother Wayne. The Maternal grandparents, are Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Miller of Eugene and the paternal grandparents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Mey ers of Albany. Man Loses Life in Overturned Truck Roseburg (ff) An empty grav el truck went out of control and overturned on a logging road Wednesday, killing Irl Ira Mays, 88, of Gardiner, a passenger. The driver, Herma V. Kerth, Portland, and Rachird A. Har mon, Scottsburg, another pas senger, were injured. Injured Convict Ballplayer Skips Walla Walla (U.R) Paul (Punchy) Keller, catcher for the state prison Softball team, left a game outside the walls with an injured hand Tuesday night. But he didn't go to the show ers. Instead, he ran away. Police were looking for the Kennewick fugitive.
