' . J Mrs. Edwards Plans Tea for Daughter-in-Law Wednesday Among hostesses of next week will be Mrs. Robert L. Edwards, who Is to en tertain at a tea on Wednesday afternoon to honor her daughler-in-law, Mrs. Irwin Edwards, Lt. Comdr. and Mrs. Irwin Edwards arrived this week from Moscow, Rus ,sia where he has been attached to the American embassy. The Wednesday tea will be at the home of Mrs. David Bennett Hill, guests being invited to call between 3 and S o'clock. Greeting guests at the door will be Mrs. James H. Nicholson, Jr. Assisting about the living rooms will r:rr, .. - : r-:r---; Delta Zcta alumnae have arranged a picnic for members and their families on Tuesday evening at the O. K. Deals home. The supper will be at 6 o'clock. On the committee with Mrs. Bcals are Mrs. Bjarne Erickscn, Mrs. Norman Paulson, Mrs. Maurice Buchanan, Miss Betty Vaughn. Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Reehcr arc ex pected home next week from several weeks trip to Michigan and Kansas. They are returning through Canada. Announcement is being made of the engagement of Miss Shirley Valet, niece of Mr. and Mrs. Roy II. Smith of Salmi, to Clifford Mondy of Dayton. Ore., for merly of Helena, Mont. No date is an nounced for the wedding. Announced for August 24 is the date of the wedding of Miss Claralyn Lee and Mikal Mikkclsen, the ceremony to take place at 4 o'clock that afternoon in the First Christian church with Dr. Brooks Moore of the First Methodist church officiating. The reception fol lowing will he in the Carrier room at the Methodist church. The bride-to-be is Ihe daughter nt Mr. Bnd Mrs. Lln.vd A. I.ee and Mr. Mikkelsen is the son of Mr and Mrs. A. Mikkelsen of Portland. The engage ment of the couple was announced this past school year. The couple will live In Corvallis next year, Mr. Mikkelsen to complete his work at OrcRon Slale college. Miss Lee received her degree from OSC this month. Chapter BC of P.E.O. Sisterhood is meeting at a called session Tuesday eve ning at the home of Mrs. Warren Baker, 780 Kingwood, at 7:30 o'clock. Reports are due on the convention held In Portland this past week. Annual "dress up" day of Salem Women's Golf association will be next Tuesday, the regular weekly day for the feminine golfers. Miss Beltz, Mr. Ford Wed Wed this afternoon at a simple service in St. Mary's Catholic church in Eugene were Miss Fritzio Beltz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. II. Beltz of Eugene, and Thomas G. Ford, son of Mrs. George W. King of Salem. The service was al 2:30 o'clock with only members of the immediate fami lies attending. The bride wore the wedding dress worn by her three sisters at their nup tials. It was of white net with Chan tilly lace trim. The fingertip illusion veil was arranged from a floral head dress and for her flowers the bride car ried magnolias. Miss Betty ,lo Uninnnn of Salem was attendant for the bride, and Nancy McGcc of Chchnlis, Wash., niece of the bride, was flower girl. Frank Ford of Salem was best man for his brother. Following the service a small recep tion was given at the Belt, home. The couple will make their home in Seattle. Mr. Ford being an investigator with the federal civil service. Both young people were graduated this month from Uni versity of Oregon. Attending the wedding from here were Mr. and Mrs. King, Miss Lnretta Ford. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stump of Mon mouth. Mr. and Mrs. David H. Cameron have rel.irned from a three weeks visit In the east. They were guests of his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Rhine, in Homer City. Pa. During their travels they were din ner guests of the Ray Yocoms, formerly of Salem. In Chicago; dinner guests of Mrs. David Nielsen, formerly of Salem, in St. Paul; visited the Lev.ir Bonders in Lansing. Mich., also the James R. Bar tons in Spokane. Mrs. J. A. Allen of Stockton, Calif. Is visiting In the capital as guest of her brother-in-law and sister. Mr. and Mrs. Charles S. Pratt. The Pratt and Mrs. Allen plan to go to Victoria and Vtnoouvax, B. Salem Soroptimist club members will gather for an informal luncheon meet ing next Wednesday noon at the Golden Pheasant. Poorman. The popular young couple will be , married the afternoon of Saturday, July S. at 4 o'clock in St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal church in Portland. Miss Marjorie Becke of Salem is to be maid of honor. Miss Marianne Weiby and Miss Nannette Silverthorne, both of Portland, are to be bridesmaids. John J. Elliott II, brother of the bride, Is to be best man. Ushering will be George M. Schwarz. Jr., of Portland, Ronald E. Jones. Jr., of Salem and Stuart Bothwell of Portland, cousin of the bridegroom. Roger Bothwell, cousin of Mr. Poor man, will be the acolyte and lighting the candles will be Richard Potter of Portland. The reception following will be in the Laurelhurst club. A large group of Salem friends will be going north for the wedding. The bride-elect is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Elliott of Portland, formerly of Salem, and Mr. Poorman is the son of Mr. and Mrs. F, W. Poorman of Salem. Corthell-Will Nuptials Today The marriage of Miss Mary Margaret Will, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clark M. Will of Salem, to Dwight Maurice Corthell, son of Dr. and Mrs. Maurice E. Corthell of Grants Pass, was solemn ized Saturday afternoon in the Carrier room of the First Methodist church. Dr. Roy A. Fedje of Portland .read the vows for the couple at 2 o'clock. Miss Frieda Carlson and Mrs. George Wagner lighted the tapers. Mrs. Rich ard Hallock and Victor Palmason with Mrs. Palmason at the piano, presented the wedding music. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a blue imported voile aft ernoon dress, made with shirtwaist style bodice with lace insets, full sleeves and pleated skirt worn over a crinoline skirt. She wore a white hat with blue veiling. Her bouquet was of lilies of the valley and white orchids. .Miss Shirley Will was her sister's only attendant, wearing a dress like that of the bride's, but in yellow. Her hat also was yellow with matching veil. She carried a bouquet of pink rosebuds and lilies of the valley. Vicki Palmason and Donnie Judson were the junior attendants. David Corthell was best man for his brother and ushering were Richard Hallock and Don Judson. The reception following also was arranged in the Carrier room. Mrs. Ruth Will, aunt of the bride, cut the cake, and pouring were Miss Vesta Mul ligan and Mrs. Steve Anderson. Assist ing were Misses Lois Monk and Ruth Ann Fedje and Mrs. Don Judson. For traveling the bride wore a gray 1 wool sharkskin suit with white acces sories and corsage of white orchids. The couple will be at home in Ash land for the summer, both attending Southern Oregon College of Education. Announced for June 29 is the wed ding of Miss Marjorie Dahlgren and Thomas John Adolphson. The ceremony will be at 4 o'clock that date in the Bethany Lutheran church in Warren. Mrs. Jasper Lyons of Corvallis is to be her sister's only attendant and Wayne Struble is to be best man for Mr. Adolphson. The bride-to-be is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Dahlgren of War ren and Mr. Adolphson is the son of Mrs. A. L. Adolphson of Salem. The couple plan to make their home in Salem. Hostess to her bridge club on Thurs day evening will be Mrs. Robert H. Hamilton. Miss Nancy Stuart has been in Port land this week for a vacation. Mrs. June Hcrron and children, Sally, Jan and Michael, were at Surftidcs on the beach for a few days this week. Here from Eureka, Calif, for a time are Mrs. Marjorie C. King and son, Lewis, guests of her sister, Miss Mildred Christianson. Mrs. Royce G. Robinson left the latter part of the week for Seattle from where she sails for Japan to join Captain Rob inson. She has been with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Wilson for several weeks. Another daughter of the Wilsons, Mrs. Frank Newell and her children from Walla Walla also have been visiting, leaving this week-end. The engagement of Miss Betty Briggs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Briggs, to Thor Christiansen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Christiansen, all of Silver ton, has been announced. DESMOND KENT WALKER AMONG JUNE weddings of interest was that of Mr. and Mrs. Desmond Kent Walker (Marilyn Mae Hill), above. The ceremony was solemnized the night of June 14 in the First Congregational church, the reception following also being at the church. The bride is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmore E. Hill of Salem and Mr. Walker is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William W. Walker of Warrenton, Ore. TWO Salem parties are planned next week to honor Miss Joan El liott, Portland, bride-elect of Wil liam W. Poorman of Salem. Mrs. Edgar T. Pierce and her daugh ter, Mrs. Peter H. Geiser, are to be hostesses at a luncheon on Tuesday at the Pierce home. A group of 12 of the bride-elect's friends is bidden. Mrs. James B. Young will be hostess for a luncheon next Saturday at her home for Miss Elliott, guests to include a doz en of the bride-to-be's friends. Mrs. Alex de Schweinitz and chil dren, Allan and George, are here from Bellingham, Wash., to visit her mother, Mrs. Harry H. Belt. Mr. de Schweinitz will join his family for over the Fourth of July after which they will return to their home. Members of Chapter CB of P.E.O. From Houston, the McKays and Miss Phillips will go on to New Orleans for a short stay, then on to Chicago for the national republican convention opening July 7.
