14 Capital Journal, Salem, Ore., Wednesday, May 21, 1952 Four Corners 4-H Cooking Club Nab Honors at Show Four Corners The Salt and Pepper 4-H cooking club with Mrs. Carol Capps and Mrs. Fred Gephardt co-leaders, which was organized in January, has com pleted the first year's cooking course. There are six girls In the group! They exhibited their work at Blayton 4-H club show recently and five of the group won rib bons. Marcia Lee and Barbara Burns won blue ribbons, Linda Rae Gephardt and Betty Bastain red ribbons, Linda Lee Capps a white ribbon. There were ap proximately 75 exhibits in that division. The Four Corners volunteer fire department held their an nual firemen's banquet and en tertained their wives at Mar shall's inn Monday evening. Covers were laid for 70. Melvin Scott was master of ceremonies. Ex-fire chief, W. R. Gould was honored as a special guest. Guest speakers were Chuck Taylor, chief deputy of state fire mar shall's department, and R. W. Sandstrom from state civil de fense office. Plans for the coming year were discussed. Vislttors Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Gould spent last week end with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Hardt, Leb anon. Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Cable have as their guests Mr. and Mrs. C. H. March, Wiley, Colo. Recent house guests in the Rex Nicholson home were Mrs Nicholson's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ack erman, Oakland, Calif. Visitors in the Raymond Hough home were his cousin and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Hough, Aberdeen, Wash. Mr. Hough is city engineer of Aber deen and was on way to Berk eley, Calif, to take civil defense training. Mrs. M. C. Thornberg, Mrs Peter Gossen and Mrs. Ralph Heath were volunteer assistants from the Auburn Mothers' club last week at the well children conference held In the commu nity hall. Dr. Brace Knapp was In charge. Public health nurses were Mrs. Muriel Swerlngen and Miss Mary Lois Mondloch. There were 18 children examined and 16 received immunization treat ment. The first of the month the Lincoln school Blue Birds, the Blue Feathers prepared for and attended the Grand Council fire of theWillamette area camp fire council held at Leslie junior high school May 3. Only nine of the group were able to at tend, the rest had chicken-pox. They have been making gifts for their mothers in preparation for their mothers party to be held in the home of their leader, Mrs. Thomas Dench Thursday, May 22. Mrs. Larry Wagner and Mrs. Donald Judson are co-hostesses with Mrs. Dench for the party. It will be the last regular meeting of the year. Sandra Pittinger is chairman this month. 'Breakdown' to Be Shown Here "Breakdown" Is the title of a motion picture to be shown during a public meeting at 8 o'clock Friday night in the acreen room of the new recep tion building of Oregon State hospital. The program will be under the direction of the Oregon and Salem Councils of Churches Following the showing of the film. Dr. W. G. Burroughs, for merly of the Crease clinic and now a staff member of the hos pital, will answer questions. Also on the program will be a talk by Harold Barton, Eu gene engineer, who spent sev eral years gathering evidence concerning conditions In mental hospitals. Mclvin Murphy, Oregon Men tal Hygiene association field secretary, will present awards to the volunteer aids who have been working at the hospital in the newly organized program. McKay Likely lo Head Delegation Ralph H. Cake, republican national committeeman of Ore gon, has called a meeting of the 18 elected delegates to the re publican national convention to be held in Salem on June 7. Cake, who did not run for re-election because of poor health, will serve until the con clusion of the convention which ! opens in Chicago on July 7. Wj Search for a missing plane was called off here Tuesday after the pilot re ported he had landed at an emergency field. The pilot, Russell Strait, Al bany, was reported missing aft er he failed to arrive at New port on the Oregon coast. The Air Search and Rescue unit or ganized and eight-plane search party to look for him. But it was called off when Strait telephoned his wife and reported that he had landed at an emergency field after, run ning into a fog bank. Senator, Wife Go to Europe To Adopt Tots Washington M" Sen. and Mrs. Fred A. Seaton are flying to Europe Wednesday to adopt two European war orphans a boy and a girl. The Seatons already have two adopted children. The two war orphans they will adopt are now in Munich under the care of the Displaced Persons Commission. While in Paris, his office said, Seaton, R-Neb., plans to visit with Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhow er. Seaton recently endorsed the general ai his choice for the GOp . presidential nomination.
