S. post offices March 26 in recog nition of the heavy traffic in air mail and air parcel post between the Islands and the mainland. It's the first air mail stamp ever issued in the 80-cent denom ination. The new issue is designed specifically to cover one-pound shipments to the eighth postal zone, which includes air mail between the mainland and Ha waii. Shipments out of Honolulu, notably cut flowers, comprise a major portion of the heavy traf fic in this zone. According to United Air Lines the nation's leading domestic air mail carrier, the new stamp will facilitate payment and han dling of one-pound shipments which formerly required several stamps to make up the 80-cent total. The design of the purple stamp shows the shore of Oahu at Ho nolulu with Diamond Head in the background. Overhead is a giant four-engined airliner sim ilar to those which make daily flights between Honolulu and the mainland. Requiem Mass for Wodzewoda Saturday Solemn requiem mass will be said at St. Joseph's Catholic church Saturday morning at 10:30 o'clock lor Frank Wodze woda, late resident of 740 South Lancaster drive, who died Wed. nesday at a local hospital. Inter ment is to be in St. Barbara cemetery. Born in Poland in 1870, Wod zewoda came to the United States with his parents at the age of 5 years. He had been a resident of the Salem community for 34 years, farming near Sa lem until retiring and living with his children. Mrs. Wod zewoda died in 1943. He was a member of St. Jo seph's Catholic church. Surviving are four sons, Ber nard Wodzewoda with the U.S. Navy, and Joseph F. Wodzewo da, Francis Wodzewoda and Maurice Wodzewoda, all of Sa lem; three daughters, Mrs. Alice Thurman of Salem, Mrs. Flor ence Shorrocks of Eugene and Mrs. Helen Carter of Seattle. Portland Man Killed By Discharge of Gun Portland, Ore. (U.R) Gordon Charles Bradford, 31, Portland, was killed Wednesday night during a scuffle with a woman over a .38 caliber revolver, po lice reported. June Elizabeth Sykes, 28, only witness to the slaying, told police Bradford had been drinking and ordered her to leave his apartment. She told officers she refused and that Bradford then threatened her with the revolver. She said that when she tried to wrest the weapon from him it discharged, the bullet striking Bradford In the chest. ' The woman was held for sev eral hours and then released.
