Program open ed by the congregation singing "Oh Come All Ye Faithful." Scripture reading and prayer by Rev. V. L. Loucks. The rest of the program from "Welcome" by Robbie Thayer to "The End and the Beginning" by Larry Weigart and Arleta Woelk was Trinity Choirs Give Program Silverton Trinity Lutheran Sunday school assisted by the senior and junior choir person nel, will present a worship serv ice Sunday, Dec. 23, at 8 o'clock Jn the evening entitled: "The Kingdom of the Christ-child," the emphasis in the service is on Christ's kingdom through the ages represented by Christians from many eras coming to the manger, beginning with the Wise Men, and then down to the children of our own time. Mrs. L. A. Meyer, Sunday school superintendent, super vises the presentation, assisted by a committee consisting of Mrs. J. A. Luthro, Miss Irene Moseng and Mrs. Orlin Smed stad. Mrs. J. A. Menter is in charge of the primary group. Narrators are DeLane Rivcness and Dean Libner. Evelyn Tor vend is pianist, Mrs. Harlan Moe, organist. James Phillips assists with the lighting effects and is in charge of arrange ments for treats for the classes. .ijiiuii ii i jiiia.Liuuii Salem 6 dliurclt ei St. John Lutheran Festival Week Beginning with the 9 and 11 o'clock services Sunday, Decem ber 23, St. John's Lutheran church will inaugurate a full week's festival program in the spirit of Christmas. The church, located at A and 16th streets, will sponsor its Sunday school program at 7:30 Sunday night. Full festival services will be held Christmas morning at 10 o'clock with a sermon by Pastor H. W. Gross on the subject, "Peace in Christ." Sunday, December 30, regular services will be held at 0 and 11 a. m. New Year's eve services will be held at 7:30 p. m. Monday, December 31. New Year s day full festival services will be held at 10 a. m. Pastor Gross will (peak at all services. The church extends a welcome lo the public to worship with the congregation during the week, Holy Eucharist At Saint Paul's The Christmas services In Saint Paul's Episcopal church will commence with the Mid night Holy Eucharist service on Monday night, December 24, at 11:15. There will be a candle light procession of the choir. which will also sing a Magnifi cat and the anthem "Alleluja by Mozart. There will be 15 minutes of organ music preced ing the service. The hymns will be Christmas carols. There will also be a service of Holy Com munlon Christmas morning a 10 a. m. The annual Sunday school pageant of the Sunday school will be held at 5 p. m. Sunday, December 23, in the church. The pageant will be followed by a Christinas tree in the parish house. participated in by the members of the Sunday school. Holiday decorations complete with a tree were arranged by Mrs. Leon Murphy and Mrs. Roy Thayer. Treats were for every one attending. "The Guiding Star" will be the topic at Sunday morning service. Evening service will include Christmas songs. Annual Watch Night party will be held at the church Mon day, Dec. 31. Four Corners volunteer fire men are sponsoring a Christmas party for the community chil dren Saturday at 2 p.m. A movie will be shown and Santa will arrive about 4 o'clock. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Jeffries entertained the Krazy Kard Klub Saturday at their home. It was a Christmas party with a festive tree and a gift ex change. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Youmans (Katie Sue Bennett) are the parents of a son, Ralph Alan, born Dec. 10, at Salem Memo rial hospital. He weighed in at 10 pounds 15 ounces. He has a brother, Dale Lee, Jr. Grand parents are Mr. and Mrs. Fred Youmans of Turner and Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Bennett, St. Louis; great grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Watson, Poplar Bluffs, Mo. Youmans moved here re cently from Turner. Gary Cartwright is home on leave, having finished his basic training at San Diego. He goes now to San Francisco he is as signed to the U.S.S. The midnight mass at St. Varied Program By Nazarenes The annual Children's Christ mas program will be presented at the 9:45 a.m. Sunday school hour of the First Church of the Nazarene as the first activity of Christmas Sunday. The combined musical groups of the church present "The Christmas Story In Song" at the 7:30 p.m. service. In addition to the choir, other groups ap pearing on the program will be the church male quartet, Mr. and Mrs. Abe Doerksen, instru mentalists, a women's chorus and triple-trio, the church or chestra, and Mrs. Shirley Scholtz, violin soloist. Soloists appearing with the choir are Rebecca Brown, soprano, Wil lard Friesen, tenor, and Beverly Parnell, soprano. Yuletide Drama At EUB Church The one-act Christmas drama, 'In the Cobbler's Shop," will be presented by the First Evangel cial United Brethren church Marion and Summer streets, next Sunday, December 23, under the direction of Mrs. Myrnie Co chell. The play has its setting in a poor cobbler s shop in Old England. Harry Keller has the leading role as Martin, the cobb ler, a cynical, embittered, lonely old men. Other members of the cast are Carl Beach, Mrs. Wil liam Strong, Helen Snider, Wil liam Strong, Richard Carlson, Ruth Senter, Johnnie Senter and Ernest Krause. The Junior Choir under the direction of Mrs. R H. Ermel will provide back ground music. Christmas worship services will be held at 10:50 a. m. Spe cial features will include the singing of a mixed quartet, "O Come to My Heart, Lord Jesus, and Germond Adams, violinist, playing, "O Holy Night. Bethel Baptist Program Sunday The Sunday school of the Bethel Baptist church, North Cottage and D streets, will pre sent its annual Christmas pro gram Sunday evening at 7:30 o'clock. The children will pre sent recitations, plays and songs. The adult department will par ticipate in tha presentation of one play. Among the musical numbers are a clarinet and or gan duet by Richard Heyden and Mrs. Cecil Stark, an organ solo by Jeanette Saucy, and a Christmas anthem by the junior and adult choir. A free-will of fering will be received. Other activities of the day in clude Sunday school at 9:45 a. m., Christmas worship serv ice at 11 a. m., and carolling by the young people after the pro gram in the evening. The public is invited to wor ship with us. Dorcas Group Assists Many Less than a year ago the Dor cas Society of the Johnson Me morial Seventh Day Adventist church opened a welfare center at 1939 North Commercial street. The building as well as mater ials and services were donated by local business men. The society is the women's home and foreign mission organ ization of the church and its members engage in a variety of activtes. They respond to emer gency calls, assist needy fami lies or individuals, ship food packages to Korea, blankets to Alaska and food baskets on the local level during the holiday season. The organization works closely with the Red Cross, the Marion county welfare and the Marion county department of health. In addition to local activities the society sends quantities of cleaned and mended clothing to the denominational overseas de pot at Watsonville, Cal. For the quarter ending Sep tember 30, the society had dis tributed 3746 articles of cloth ing, 803 persons given assist ance, and 34 packages sent over seas. Persons interested in contrib uting to the cause are asked to dial 4-1193 during the day or 4-4135 in the evening. Unitarians Plan Family Party The Unitarian Fellowship of Salem will hold their annual family Christmas party at the Salem Memorial hospital chapel on Sunday. The party is sched uled for 4:00 p.m. and will con sist of games, light refreshments and the singing of Christmas carols. The usual 8:00 p.m. services will not be held. Children Make Home Nativity Crib Scenes Woodburn Children of St. Luke's Catholic church are tak ing part in a parish contest in which each will build and erect a crib of Bethlehem in their homes. It was announced last Sunday by the pastor. Father V. L. Moffenbeir. The home creations of the children will be reassembled for display in St. Luke's parish hall on January 7, where the general public may view them.' The contest is sponsored as part of the effort to "Put Christ back into Christmas." Englewood Choir Gives Musical In a candlelight setting the Englewood Evangelical United Brethren church choir will sing the Christmas cantata this Sun day evening at 7:30 o'clock. Spe cial solo parts will be sung by Mary Jo Hall, Leslie James, Joan Hamman and Dwight Gralap. The choir will be directed by Berwin Murray and accompan ied at the organ by Lola Mur ray. Court St. Church Vesper Service A Christmas cantata, "The Wondrous Story," by Kountz, will be presented at a 5 o'clock vesper service Sunday, Decem ber 23, by the choir of the Court Street Christian church, under the direction of Philip McHar ness. Following the cantata the young people of the church will present a special showing of "The Living Picture" of the na tivity scene, 6 to 7:30 p. m. This picture is presented on a special ly prepared stage in front of the church building. These services will take the place of the regu lar Sunday evening service. Fourth Sermon on Christmas Theme At the Christian and Mission ary Alliance church, the pastor. Rev. Paul W. Gunther, will preach the Christmas sermon at 11 a.m. on the theme, "The Shepherds See Jesus." This is the fourth of six sermons on "The Christ of Christmas." At 7:30 p.m., the Sunday school will pre sent the Annual Christmas pro gram.
