High St. Lie. 8216 - ml 33 ' r Corvallis Bid High on Lumber For a timber tract with an es timated 3,150,000 board feet of mixed timber species at an ap praised price of $82,243, a high bid of $135,777 was made by T. Stacker of Corvallis at the regular timber sale held in the Salem office of the bureau of land management, according to District Forester Rodney O. Fe- ty, who conducted the timber sale. The next high bid was made by Corvallis Lumber company of Corvallis, who bid $132,937. In submitting the high bid, Star ker bid $47 per thousand for the Douglas fir, which is one of the highest bids received by the bureau for this species in west ern Oregon. The timber sale area is located south of Alsea in the vicinity of Prairie mountain. A second tract of timber in Linn county near Snow Peak was sold at the appraised price to Willamette Valley Lumber company of Dallas. This tract contained an estimated volume of 8,560,000 board feet and an appraised value of $184,671.50. One other small sale in Clack amas county, south of Squaw mountain, was sold at the ap praised price to Glenn E. Park of Estacada. This parcel of tim ber has an estimated volume of 135,000 board feet and a total value of $979.50. This is the second timber sale of the current fiscal year. This was decided in an of ficial manner by the county court Tuesday morning through the adoption of a resolution. The court would willingly get out of force account business but occasionally .when there are no bidders for road improve ments the county must take it over. Heretofore such work has been done on a cost basis, figured without profit.
