Maxim Gets Set For Wednesday Risk of Title New York, Aug. 21 W) Joey Maxim, light heavyweight champ from Cleveland, risks his title for the first time Wed nesday night at Madison Square garden when he meets Irish Bob Murphy of San Diego In a 15 round bout. Maxim stashed the crown in the clothes closet Jan. 24, 1950 when he dethroned Freddie Mills at London. Although he never gave anybody a shot at it, the early line showed the champ a 6 to 5 favorite. There were indications Murphy would be the choice by ring time. Still some six pounds over the 175-pound limit when they underwent preliminary physical exams Thursday, both boys are expected to draw it close. They probably will just make it with little to spare. : This is the fight that prompt ed some senators to call for a congressional investigation of boxing. They claimed the In ternational Boxing Club passed up Harry Matthews, who whip ped Murphy last March, to give Irish Bob a shot at the big prize. The IBC expects a crowd of some 10,000 ahd a $50,000 gate with the top ticket price peg ged at $15. Mutphy is a strong bullish southpaw with a terrific left uppercut and a stiff body attack. In 65 fights since 1945, the ex aailor has won 60, knocking out 55 opponents. He was stop ped twice among his five losses. ' In 10 starts this year he has lost only two, the decision to Matthews and a disputed loss on a foul to Joe Rlndone at Boston. He knocked out Hindone in a return bout, July 23. 0 ffiftl r r uorKv roe Frencly l popular wrest ler, who will face hated Sol dat Gorky in the main event of Tuesday night's profession al grappling card at the Sa lem armory. K mm Are YOU Playing Ball with your Merchant, Doctor & Hospital? DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR BATTING AVERAGE IS? NOW IS THE TIME TO FIND OUT! When you receive a Pioneer Service County Credit Board Statement bearing our register trade mark, either Pay Your Bill in FULL, PAY PART or SATISFACTORILY Arrange to PAY! Almost all of your merchants and professional men in your trade area receive our Monthly Credit Reports. These reports carry the delinquent debtors names and their batting aver age. Anyone of these debtors who do not have a credit rating: such as a "P", which means PAYING; or an "A" which means satisfactorily arranged has a poor batting average. And where he has no "P" or "A" in front of his name at all he has three strikes on him and has virtually fanned out. Now you can easily understand that with a poor batting average (nothing before your name) the merchant will realize that you are not entitled to credit and have struck out. REMEMBER that the man who pays is welcome everywhere and the one who does net pay soon becomes a social outcast, and loses his credit something ha may never re gain!
