x Garden Club Charts Picnic Independence The regulaf monthly meeting of the Inde pendence Garden club was held in the parlors of the Presbyter ian church Monday night. The new officers were in charge of the meeting. Mrs. Paul Dodele, president, appointed the following committee chairmen: Program, Mrs. P. Sloper; civic, Mrs. T. D. Pomeroy; social, Mrs. Nick Versteeg; horticulture, Mrs. A. E. Kiser; birds, Mrs. Etta Welch; courtesy, Mrs. Cora Berry; press, Mrs. E. R. Grant ham. Due to the increase in mem bership, it was decided to hold the meetings in the Pythian hall instead of in the homes. It was voted to give $10 to the recreational fund. It was announced by Mrs. Sloper, program chairman, that the next meeting would be a picnic held at the city park. However, as the park will be used for supervised play, Mrs. Sloper informed the hostesses that they could use her back yard for the picnic. Mrs. Ward Ingles, assisted by Mrs. Andrew Fery, both of Stay ton, gave a demonstration of corsage making. Five different corsages were made, using dif 1 ferent types of flowers, includ- ing roses and the buds, daisies, and funkia, species of wild lily, delphinium and iris. Following the meeting, the hostesses, Mrs. Elmer Addiaon, Mrs. Cora Berry and Mrs. Har rison Brant, served refreshments to more than 30 members and two guests, Mrs. Orville Wells and Mrs. W. A. Barnum. Mill City Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Hugh and son left last week, moving to Eugene to attend summer school before taking over his duties as science teacher in the Salem Junior high school this fall. Rugh taughth in the Mill City high school the past three years. Mr. and Mrs. Wilis Potter are spending some time in Mill City with his mother, Mrs. J. F. Pot ter. Willis Potter, who recently returned to U. S. from Japan, was injured seriously in a car accident, is recovering satisfac torily. Pfc. John Jackson, stationed at an army camp at Atlanta, Ga., spent a three-day pass with his parents, Mr. and Mrs,. F, Jack son,' prior to overseas duty.
