of his car became imbedded in
soft gravel between the rails of
the Southern Pacific tracks and
the car stalled.

Albany The funeral for Jack D. Flamme,
t. former Albany resident, who died
Tuesday at the U. 8. Veteran's hospital In
Portland following an extended Illness, will
be held at tho Fisher Funeral home here
Friday at 3 p.m. Mr. Flamme. a native of
Nebraska, came to Albany In 1942 and
following nis graduation from high school
served during World War II as a seaman
first class on tho destroyer Chevalier in
the South Pacific. He returned to Albany
in 1947 where he remained until 1950 when
he moved to Salem. He married Orace Jo
sephine Hill In Salem, June 25, 1950, who
survives as do his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Franc riamme, Albany, and a sister, Joyce
Flamme, Albany.
John Schaffera
Mt. Angel John Schaffera, 87, died at
the Mt. Angel home Wednesday night.
Born In Germany. Mr. Bchaffers came to
Mt. Angel In 1888. He was married to Eliza
beth Schwerter in 1910 at Mt. Angel. Be
sides his wife, he leaves three sons, Joe
Schaffera of Salem; Clem, Mt. Angel; and
Pvt. John Schaffera, Camp Cook, Calif; six
daughters, Marie Schaffera, Mt. Angel;
Mrs. Rose Brundldge, Mt. Angel; Mrs. Joan
Hassler. Tillamook: Mrs. Wllma Fisher, Sa
lem; Mrs. Josephine Harrold, Iowa; and
Mrs. Betty Scharbach, Salem; a slater,
Mrs. Mlna Larltze, San Francisco and 16
grand-children. Funeral arrangements will
be announced by tho Unger Funeral home.

Providence cemetery. Mr. Johnston was
born at Lacomb, March 24, 1005, but was
reared at Aumsviue. on Sept. 11, 1039 he
was married to Hazel Powell of Aums-
ville who was also born at Lncomb, He
leaves one son, Darrell, now In U. S.
military service; a daughter, Lora, and his
widow.
