' i 1 k J 'S Revenue Agent Gels Ouster Washington, Feb. 21 The internal revenue bureau today cleared one of its California em ployes and fired another after an investigation of charges of "misconduct in office." Commissioner George J. Schoeneman anounced that: 1. John B. Williams of the Los Angeles accounts and collections unit "has been exonerated of the charges and has been restored to duty." 2. William D. Malloy, dep uty collector at San Francisco, i has been removed from the serv ice, as a result of the investiga tion." Schoeneman said that investi gation of another San Francisco deputy collector, Ernest M. Schino, is not complete. Charges against all three, Schoeneman had said earlier, involved "alleged' improper transactions with underworld characters in Nevada and Cali fornia." No specific allegation against Malloy has ever been stated by the revenue bureau and it de clined to do so today. . BAD EXAMPLE Expert Raps Young Male Stars for Sloppy Hairdos By BOB THOMAS Hollywood, Feb 21 (ff) A top beauty expert of Hollywood today rapped the younger crop of male actors for their "sloppy" hairdos.. "They're messes, all of them," exclaimed Patricia Stenz, who operates what appears to be filmdom's only male beauty salon. Her specialty is restoring andv treating hair, and her customers have included Dick Powell, Gary Cooper, Fred MacMurray, John Lund, Jose Ferrer and Mel Ferrer. "I just shudder when I see some of the young actors," she shuddered. "They look awful and they're ruining their hair. "Farley Granger is one of the worst. He wears sideburns and lets his hair dangle over his forehead. I suppose he thinks it looks cute. I think it only makes him look unkempt. "Tony Curtis is another. His hair is not only sloppy, but it's dripping with grease. He wears his hair so long he looks like a girl. "On the other hand the girls cut their hair so short they look like boys. The sexes are getting out of balance." John Derek also looks in need of a good combing, she added. As for Burt Lancaster "He looks as though he had just step ped out of a shower and run his hand through his hair."- Rory Calhoun appears to have "comb ed his hair with an eggbeater." "They're setting a bad ex ample for the youth of the na tion," said Miss Stenz. "The situation is already bad enough. It used to be that the average American male didn't have a scalp condition until 35. Now it's 23." She blamed the increase of baldness and scalp falsies to improper care of the hair. She cited these causes: Harmful hair tonics and shampoos (those con taining acids or alkalis); fail ure to clean the hair properly (it should be done twice week ly); harmful haircuts (she dis approved of the crew cut, ex cept for army men); improper diet. If Hollywood's young stars keep maltreating their hair, they'll end up with toupees, she warned. "Not only that," she added, "they look terrible. You see them -at dinner parties or night clubs, all dressed up in expen sive shirts and tuxedoes and loaded with costly jewelry. Then you look up and see their sloppy mess of hair. It spoils the whole effect. 'It's unromantic, too. One thing a woman loves to do is run her hand through her man's hair. But what would a girl get if she put her hand on the heads of these young stars a handful of hair and grease! "These boys should heed the example of the older stars. Whereever you see Clark Gable on the street or in a movie his hair is always perfectly groomed. The same goes for the cowboy stars Gene Autry and Roy Rogers. You never see them looking sloppy." Capsule Review: "Royal Wed ding" is a musical delight. Thanks to some imaginative di recting and three or four in spired musical numbers, the MGM musical factory has turn ed out one of its best produc tions. The slim plot about a brother and sister dance act with romantic complications isn t allowed to become too Im portant or too wearing. Gambler Poses Police Problem Fort Worth, Tex., Feb. 21 ") Col Homer Garrison, head of the Texas State Police Force, isn't sure what action, if any, will be taken if Gambler Mickey Cohen comes to Texas next Sun day with Evangelist Billy Graham. Garrison told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram by long distance telephone today that he will adopt "a wait and see policy." Texas Rangers several months ago escorted Cohen out of Texas. They claimed he came to Texas to take out new gambling ter ritory. When informed that Cohen has told a Los Angeles report er that he may accompany Gra ham to Fort Worth, Garrison said "it appears the Lord is working in devious ways his wonders to perform." "If the guy (Cohen) has got ten religioon, it would present us with an unusual situation. Garrison said. Fair enough ? In Japan They Still Fight Fires with Man-Drawn Carts It's like the olden days in the USA when there is a fire in some parts of Japan. There are man-drawn carts and the pumps are manned by men, too. Telling of this in a recent letter was Sgt. Arthur Schack, Jr., former member of the Capital Journal advertising department. who now is at Camp Drew, Koiz-j uma, Japan. The sergeant. member of the medical corps, is now chief clerk of the head quarters at the 343rd General hospital there. In his letter Schack said "We do have some excitement around once in awhile. "Saturday night a big build ing that we had just remodeled to use as a medical supply depot burned to the ground. As it was only about 50 feet from our new hospital building it kept those of us from headquarters sort of hopping to be sure nothing of ours caught and went, too, "It was rather amusing to see the 'man-drawn' carts like we used to have in the 90s still being used by the Japanese. Of course, the pumps are manned by men, too. 'One cart came four miles with the men running and pulling it by hand all the way and then pumping the water by hand, too. It is surprising what the human body can endure. But I guess the cheapest thing they have over here is human beings. This whole island of Honshu would fit inside the state of Montana and there are 72 million people on it If you stop and think, that is about half the population of the entire United States." Of the location of the camp where he is assigned and the people nearby, Schack had this to say: "The minute you step outside the gate you are lost, or you might as well be, as these coun try folk around this section of Japan speak little or no English."
