The nomination went to the senate just a few days after Smith's selection to succeed Rear Adm. Roscoe H. Hillen- koetter, was announced. Hillenkoetter is being assigned to command of a cruiser divi sion. The president also nominated Rear Adm. In addition to discussion and lectures on their own program of work the Junior Red Cross members at the camp also outline other things they can do to aid the American Red Cross in its program of service to the community and nation, ' Turigate Goes Back to State Prison Upon Return Here Richard P. Tungate, who was captured in Bothell, Wash., Sat urday, eight days after his escape from the Marion county jail, will go directly to the 'Oregon Oregon, Marion county district today. . Tungate was picked up in the back yard of a home In Bothell, a small town near Seattle, along with Donald E. Flodtrom, who escaped with Tungate and Ken neth O. Smith, from the county jail on August' 11. Smith is still at large. Tungate was on parole . from the Oregon State prison at the time of his escape, from the county bastile. He had been sent up to the state institution on June 25, 1949, to serve two years on a burglary charge. Theft Violates Parole He was paroled after 10 months. Late last month he was arrested for auto f theft. The commission of a felony revokes his parole, and it will be neces sary for him to go back to pri son and serve out the remaining 14 months of his two-year sen tence. When he finally is discharged from the prison, he still must face charges of. auto theft and escape from the county jail, Committee Will Meet to Study New Y Building The YMCA building expansion committee, headed by R. L, Eifstrom, will meet Wednesday they may effect plans for the addition of a sizable building to the present Y on Court street. Several weeks ago the committee decided to forego construe tion during 19S0 but agreed at that time to go Into the matter at a later date. The YMCA will observe 1951 as centennial year of the organ ization. It will also mark the 25th anniversary of the comple tion of the present Salem Y. Next Friday forenoon bids will be opened ' in connection with contemplated work In the physical plant of the YMCA, to make the building come unaer fire regulations passed by the legislature. The project will cost several thousand dollars. Included In the plans are two fire escapes, one on the east side which will take care of the small gymnas ium on the third floor and dor mitory rooms on the second and third floors. The second fire escape to be located at the northeast cor ner, will be a short one for use oi spectators in the large gymnasium. Numerous fire doors opening off the stairways will be con structed. During the quiet period of August, various Improvements have been made, including re painting of the handball courts, the large gymnasium, the din ing rooms and the den In the at State prison upon his return to attorney E. O. Stadter, Jr., said Stadter explained. ' Marion county officials Mon day morning were still awaiting word from Seattle as to whether or not Tungate and Flodstrom vill waive extradition proceed ings. If they waive. ,a repre sentative from the Marion coun ty sheriff's office will go to Seat tle and return the pair to Salem. If they fall to waive extradition, warrents will have to be pre pared for their removal from Washington to Oregon. Wanted In Polk County Flodstrom is wanted in Polk county on a charge of grand lar ceny, in addition to jail break from the Marion county jail. J. B. Wilcox, special FBI agent in charge of the Seattle office, would not disclose how his agent learned of Tungate .and Flod Strom's whereabout. 'Hangover Lodge' Is Suggested by Drys Washington, Aug. 21 ffl A "hangover lodge where motor ists would be kept until sober" is advocated for every bar by W A. Scharffenberg, executive sec retary of the American Temper ance society. He told a Seventh Day Ad ventlsts meeting yesterday that legislation should be enacted re quiring bartenders to collect ig nition keys before they serve armies to motorists. i "After drinking, the customer should be taken to the 'hangov er lodge' until simple scientific tests prove his fitness for driv ing, Scharffenberg said. (J.g.) Burton R. Willeford of 392 Cleveland street, Wood burn, the first officer from the organized naval reserve sur face division to be called for active duty with the navy. Willeford, who is to report on or before August 30, volun teered for active duty. Lf. Willeford To Active Duly First officer from Salem's Or ganized Naval Reserve surface division to report for active duty with the navy will be Lt. (j.g.) Burton R. Willeford of 392 Cleveland street, Woodburn. Willeford, who earlier volun teered for active duty and has been awaiting his orders, is to report to Portland for his physi cal examination on or before August 30. From there he is to proceed to the Columbia River group, Pacific fleet. Veteran of World War II, the lieutenant has been a member of the surface division since May of this year. During the last war he spent four years on active duty with 15 months of that time in the Philippine area aboard mine sweepers. He reverted to inactive status In March, 1946. A V-l student at Willamette university during the World War II Willeford returned to the university following the war and received his degree from there in January, 1947. He recently has been in the fuel oil distribution business with his lather. Williford is married and has one son, Ronald. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Burton R. Wille ford, Sr., who also make their home in Woodburn. Fire Destroys Mill Sutherlin, Ore., Aug. 21 W) The L & H Lumber company head rig and part of the mill were destroyed Saturday in a hot fast fire. Firemen of Oak land and Sutherlin controlled the flames before they reached stacked lumber. Mill owner Sid Lieken set damage at $30,000.
