Girl Disillusioned in Tour With Magazine Sales Crew Disillusioned over the life and disappointed with the financial returns from traveling with a magazine sales crew in northwest states, Irene (Dolly) Koker, 17-year-old Jefferson girl who left Salem about two weeks ago, is home again. She is the daughter of Mrs. Vesta Koker and Sherman Koker, of Jefferson. She had beeno sought as a "missing person" but returned home by bus from Mis soula, Mont. Whether possible action will be taken against a circulation campaign agency for two na tional magazines has not yet been decided by the mother, who claims the crewmen contributed tc the delinquency of her daugh ter by keeping the girl out of school in a traveling job. According to the atory told by the girl she and Jim Monroe, 20, also of Jefferson: answered a newspaper advertisement ask ing for crew members under 25 who were free to travel. They were accepted in Salem and went first to Tacoma, Wash The sales crew consisted of two married couples, and another girl and herself after Monroe quit in Seattle. Monroe, she said, was "fired" because he apparently was un able to "put over" his sales talk. Monroe, she declared, was left at the Seattle city limits with only $1 and hitch-hiked back to Jefferson. The crew, the girl continued, worked in Yakima, Walla Walla and Pullman, Wash., in Moscow and Mullins, Ida. and Missoula. She said she earned $28 in six days of selling, representing her share of the 10 subscriptions she sold. The agency paid her way home from Missoula. Irene related that the firm "specialized" in "working" col lege campuses although the crew knew it was unlawful in most instances to do so. She told her two sisters, both of California, who arrived in Jefferson Satur day, that she had started out in debt to the company and still owed the company. She said it was their policy that if a sales person was arrested for failing to register or obtain permission from the police department to solicit subscriptions, the agency would provide bail for the soli citor but that the individual had to make repayment.
