New Record High Price Set
For Rams in Albany Sale
By CLAUDE STEUSLOFF
A new record high average of $98.46 for rams was set at the
ninth annual Willamette Valley purebred sheep sale held Sat
urday at Albany.
Brisk buying by California, Washington and Oregon flock
masters ran the sale total up to $11,547.50 for the 124 rams and
ewes offered. Ewes averaged
$59.56.
A. M. Mindcn of Sublimity
paid $280 for the top animal of
the sale, a Hampshire stud ram
consigned by R. W. Hogg & Sons
of Salem, who also sold the top
ram at last year's event. Minden
bought three other rams and one
ewe.
Second highest price ram, a
Romney, went to L. J. Knife of
Arago at $225. His twin was
third highest at $205 to Dr. C. H.
Seagrave of Oregon City. Both
sheep were consigned by Lynn
Barnes of Harrisburg and trace
to a ram Imported from New
Zealand several years ago by
Ahrens Bros., Turner.
Prices Indicate Quality
Excellent quality of the offer
ings was reflected in the price
scale established. Fourteen rams
brought $150 or more each, com
pared to 11 such last year. At
both the spring sheep sale in
Sacramento, Calif., and the
more recent one at Filer, Idaho,
prices were about 20 per cent
under last year.
Columbia rams, only two
were entered, sold for the top
breed average at $127.50, two
