    Stocks Advance
round 2 Cents
New York, June IS 11 The
stock market swung upward to
day or the largest overall gain
in more than a month.
Leading issues advanced frac
tions to around 2 cents in a
decisive move away from the
4'?-year low established Mon
day. A rally started Tuesday but
sputtered out before it ever got
going.
Steel and motor stocks were
among the best performers, with
rails, oils, rubbers, and non-ferrous
metals following clo.e be
hind. The advance was jerky, the
market taking frequent resting
spells. There was little tendency
to fall back, though, even when
demand slackened.
Business expanded slightly
when prices edged up. Turnover
was at the rate of around flOO,
000 shares for the full session,
which would be below Monday
and Tuesday but still better
than average.
Among the gainers were U.S
Steel, General Motors, Chrysler.
Studebaker, Santa Fe, Southern
Pacific, Standard Oil (NJ), Tex
as Co., Richfield Oil, U.S. Rub
ber, Goodyear. Anaconda Cop
per, Kennecott. Phelps Dodge,
American Smelting, Boeing,
American Telephone, Dow
Chemical. Du Pont, U.S. Gyp
sum, American Woolen and In
ternational Paper.
