The bread cer eal jumped nearly 9 cents in early dealing!! and held on to a good part of its gains through to the close. Buying came mainly from lo- oo cal traders who had been short on the marke.t They were i taken by mirpriite by the new1 support program. One trader said, "The government pulled another rabbit out of its hat, and the animal promptly began chewing up the shorts." Corn, oats and rye made fair- sized gains, but did not match the advancein wheat. Soybeans and lard, which have been very weak in recent markets, jumped for wide gains. The buying in soybeans drew some support from reports of better demand for cash beans from processors. Profit-taking kept the wheat advance in check after the first hour, and some selling resulted because of more unwanted mois ture over many areas of the southwest. Important grain cen j ters in Texas, Oklahoma, Kan sas and Nebraska received over night rains. Wheat closed 3 4-5s,4 higher, July $l.93i-vi, corn was 1-Nt-2V higher, July $1.323-S. oat were -lV higher, July 39'St Vz, rye was lc-2 4 higher, July $1.35-1.36. soybeans were ls4-i higher, July $2.2034 2.21, and lard was 12 to 32 cents a hundred pounds higher, July $11.10-11.12. Stocks Advance To Around Point New York, June 8 (eW Steel, motor and railroad stocks paced a rising market today. The advance was slow but gains running from fractions to around a point were well dis tributed throughout the list. Business dropped well under the 1,000,000-share mark, wh .i was topped on each of the two preceding sessions. Turnover was at the rate of around 800, 000 .shares for the full day. The rally was a little more im pressive than yesterday's skimpy advance but it was the second day in a row in which the mar ket has gained ground. On Mon day, in one of the worst spills of the year, prices dropped to a two-year low and hovered only a trifle above the historic lows of 1946 and 1047. Much debated in Wall street is the question of whether the current turn upward is the start of a long-expected summer ral ly or merely an interruption to a long decline. Higher prices were paid for U.S. Steel, Bethlehem Steel, General Motors, Chrysler, Stu debaker, Santa Fe, Sears Roe buck, United Aircraft, American Telephone, Western Union, Ken necott Copper, and Westing house Electric. Balky spots included U. S. Rubber (at the year's low at one time). National Distillers, U. S. Gypsum, and Gulf Oil.
